The Shadow Of The Eagle
''The Shadow of the Eagle'' (a.k.a. ''Shadow of the Eagle'') is a 1932 American Pre-Code Mascot 12 episode film serial, directed by Ford Beebe and B. Reeves Eason and produced by Nat Levine.Farmer 1984, p. 325. The film stars John Wayne in his first serial role. He would go on to star in two other serials for Mascot, ''The Hurricane Express'' (1932) and ''The Three Musketeers'' (1933). ''The Shadow of the Eagle'' is now in the public domain. Plot Colonel Nathan B. "Skipper" Gregory, a former World War I ace pilot, is the owner of a travelling carnival that has fallen on hard times. Only the money brought in by Craig McCoy, the carnival stunt pilot, keeps the carnival from closing. Jean Gregory, Colonel Gregory's daughter, works with Craig as a wing walker and parachutist. A film poster is a poster used to promote and advertise a film primarily to persuade paying customers into a theater to see it. Kenneth Harlan
Kenneth Daniel Harlan (July 26, 1895 – March 6, 1967) was an American actor of the silent film era, playing mostly romantic leads or adventurer types. Early life Harlan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of George W. Harlan and actress Rita W. Harlan (born Sarah Wolff). He was a graduate of Saint Francis High School in Brooklyn, New York City, and Fordham University in the Bronx. Career At age seven, Harlan began acting on stage and working in vaudeville. Pat O'Malley (September 3, 1890 – May 21, 1966) was an American vaudeville and stage performer prior to starting a prolific film career at the age of sixteen. He later had a career in television. Career O'Malley was born as Patrick Henry O'Malley, Jr. in Forest City, Pennsylvania. He had circus experience by the time he discovered an interest in motion pictures. His screen career dates from the days of Kalem and Edison Studios. Lloyd Whitlock
Lloyd Whitlock (January 2, 1891 – January 8, 1966) was a prolific American actor who began working during Hollywood's silent era. Born in 1891, he appeared in nearly 200 films between 1916 and 1949. Distinguished by his height and stature, he became especially known for playing heavies in B-movie westerns. Biography Lloyd was born in Springfield, Missouri, to James Whitlock and Mary Wadlow. After appearing in dozens of silent films, Lloyd successfully made the transition to the talkies, appearing on-screen through the early 1940s. Billy West (silent Film Actor)
Billy West (September 22, 1892 – July 21, 1975) was a film actor, producer, and director. Active during the silent film era, he is best known as a semi-successful Charlie Chaplin impersonator. Beyond acting, he also directed shorts in the 1910s and 20s, as well as produced films. West ultimately retired in 1935. Early career Born Roy B. Weisberg (or ''Weissberg'') in the Russian Empire to a Jewish family, West emigrated to Chicago with his family in 1896. He appeared in many short films, first in ''Apartment No. 13'' in 1912. A barker, often a carnival barker, is a person who attempts to attract patrons to entertainment events, such as a circus or funfair, by exhorting passing members of the public, announcing attractions of show, and emphasizing variety, novelty, beauty, or some other enticing feature of the show. A barker would often conduct a brief free show, introducing performers and describing acts to be given at the feature performance. Professional barkers strongly disliked the term and instead referred to themselves as "talkers". Ernie Adams (actor)
Ernie Adams (born Ernest Stephen Dumarais; June 18, 1885 – November 26, 1947) was an American vaudevillian performer, stage and screen actor and writer. Biography Born in San Francisco, California to Leon D. Adams and Laurence G. Girard, he was also billed as Ernest S. Adams and Ernie S. Adams. He appeared in vaudeville, theater, and film. He started his career in musical comedy on Broadway. Along with his wife Berdonna Gilbert, he formed the vaudeville team "Gilbert and Adams". He appeared in more than 400 films starting from the silent era between 1919 and 1948, and was particularly known for playing shady characters. On Broadway, Adams appeared in ''Toot-Toot!'' (1918). On November 26, 1947, Adams died of an acute pulmonary edema at the West Olympic Sanitarium in Los Angeles, California, aged 62. Ventriloquism, or ventriloquy, is a performance act of stagecraft in which a person (a ventriloquist) creates the illusion that their voice is coming from elsewhere, usually a puppeteered prop known as a "dummy". James Bradbury Jr. (October 5, 1894 – January 21, 1936) was an American character actor in supporting roles in films of the 1920s and 1930s. Biography The son of veteran character actor James Bradbury (1857–1940), New York-born Bradbury Jr. began his career on stage as a child in ''Madame Butterfly''. Both Bradburys arrived in Hollywood around 1920, and Junior played Richard Barthelmess' rival in ''Classmates'' (1924) and ''The Drop Kick'' (1927).
