Bachelorette
''Bachelorette'' (/ˌbætʃələˈrɛt/) is a term used in American English for a single, unmarried woman. The term is derived from the word ''bachelor'', and is often used by journalists, editors of popular magazines, and some individuals. "Bachelorette" was famously the term used to refer to female contestants on the old ''The Dating Game'' TV show and, more recently, ''The Bachelorette''. In older English, the female counterpart term to "bachelor" was "spinster". However, this has acquired negative connotations and, when used now, tends to imply that the unmarried woman is too old to find a husband and have children. A bachelorette may have previously been in a relationship. In Canada, the term ''bachelorette'' also refers to a small bachelor apartment (an apartment with only one large room serving as a bedroom and living room plus a separate bathroom—i.e. a studio apartment). Derivation The more proper neologism would be ''bacheloress'', since the '' Wiktionary:-ess ...

Bachelorette (song)
"Bachelorette" is a song recorded by Icelandic singer, songwriter and actress Björk for her third studio album, ''Homogenic'' (1997). Released as its second single on 1 December 1997, the song was originally written for a film by Bernardo Bertolucci, but the project was withdrawn. The lyrics for "Bachelorette" were written by Sjón, a friend and collaborator of the singer. The song's accompanying music video was noted for its surrealistic art direction, leading to a win at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. Music and lyrics Björk wrote about the writing process of "Bachelorette" on her website: "Bachelorette" is emotionally charged and theatrical, following ''Homogenic''s theme of "beats and strings", but also includes instruments such as timbales, timpani, Alp horn and accordion, among others, which helped make the song stronger and more dramatic. Björk described the song's lyrical theme as "Isobel goes to the city". Critical reception British magazine ''Music Week'' gave t ...

While falling short of the number 2 debut for her previous album, ''Boys for Pele'' (1996), ''From the Choirgirl Hotel'' is Amos's strongest debut to date in US sales, selling 153,000 copies in the first week. By 2008, it had sold 778,000 copies in US. In 1999, Amos received two Grammy nominations: Alternative Music Performance, and Female Rock Vocal Performance for "Raspberry Swirl". Bachelorette (singer)
Bachelorette is the musical project of New Zealander Annabel Alpers. Formed in 2004 in Christchurch, Bachelorette mixes '60s psychedelia and girl-group pop with folk and vintage electronics. Prior to Bachelorette, Alpers played in Christchurch surf-band Hawaii Five-O and Hiss Explosion. Musical career Bachelorette envisions herself surrounded by her computer ‘musicians’; her songs “often start simply and spiral outward like cotton candy in the making.”. Bachelorette’s music was originally crafted with thrift-store found instruments, resulting in psychedelic computer folk music, "a student of computer-based composition", or a “lo-fi, one-woman version of Animal Collective.” Alpers tends to write all albums in isolation in various countryside locales: the Canterbury Hills and west coast of New Zealand, and in rural Virginia. Her music is of that interdependent relationship - sometimes romantic - that exists between humans and machine, where one cannot successfully ...

Studio Apartment
A studio apartment, also known as a studio flat ( UK), a self-contained apartment (Nigeria), efficiency apartment, bed-sitter (Kenya) or bachelor apartment, is a small apartment (rarely a condo) in which the normal functions of a number of rooms – often the living room, bedroom, and kitchen – are combined into a single room. Bachelorette Party
A bachelorette party (United States and Canada) or hen night ( UK, Ireland and Australia) is a party held for a woman (the bride or bride-to-be) who will soon be married. While Beth Montemurro concludes that the bachelorette party is modelled after the centuries-old stag night in the US, which is itself historically a dinner given by the bridegroom to his friends shortly before his wedding, Sheila Young argues that its British counterpart evolved from a number of earlier pre-wedding traditions for women (Ribbon Girl, Pay Off, Bosola, Taking Out, Jumping the Chanty, to name but a few) whose origins are obscure but which have been around for at least a century in factories and offices across the UK. Despite its reputation as "a sodden farewell to maiden days" or "an evening of debauchery", these events can simply be parties given in honor of the bride-to-be, in the style that is common to that social circle. Terminology The term ''bachelorette party'' or simply ''bacholerette'' is ...
