Sunny Bay () is an MTR station in Yam O. It is between and stations. The station is an interchange station between the and the to Hong Kong Disneyland. The station was originally to be named ''Yam O'' (). ''Yam O'' was not used probably because of its ominous connotations (Cantonese ''Yam'' is more commonly known to English speakers as Mandarin ''yin'', which means darkness or a negative quality. Yam O is ''yin'' since it is at the north side of a mountain). The station was the first MTR station to have automatic platform gates (APG) installed on the edge of its platforms. These gates range from to the height of the platform screen doors found in other MTR stations. In line with ground level and above-ground MTR stations, the Sunny Bay and stations are not air conditioned, and rely on their open architecture to keep the temperature low. Yam O
Yam O () is a bay located on the northeast shore of Lantau Island, in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It is part of the Ma Wan constituency of the Tsuen Wan District Council. Yam O was the only natural lumber preservation zone in Hong Kong. Even today, travellers passing through Yam O can see natural lumber on stilts in the bay. Today, Yam O is known for its interchange for the Disneyland Resort line via the nearby Sunny Bay MTR station, built on reclaimed land near Yam O. Tung Chung Line
The Tung Chung line is one of the ten lines of the MTR system in Hong Kong, linking the town of Tung Chung with central Hong Kong. A part of the Tung Chung line was built along with the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and the Tsing Ma Bridge. The line currently travels through eight stations in 31 minutes along its route. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. Discovery Bay (DB) is a resort town on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
