South Dakota House Of Representatives
The South Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Dakota Legislature. It consists of 70 members, two from each legislative district. Two of the state's 35 legislative districts, Districts 26 and 28, are each subdivided into two single-member districts (26A/26B and 28A/28B). Erin Healy
Erin Healy (born April 22) is an American politician serving two terms as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from the 14th district. After South Dakota redistricting, Erin will now be running for House of Representatives in District 10. Career 2018 election season In 2018, Healy ran for one of two South Dakota House of Representative seats in District 14. She ran against incumbents, retired veteran and community figure, Larry Zikmund and retired teacher, Tom Holmes, who were both running for re-election in the district. Also in the race was Democrat Valerie Loudenback, vice-president and owner of Grand Prairie Foods. South Dakota Legislature
The South Dakota State Legislature is the legislative branch of the government of South Dakota. It is a bicameral legislative body, consisting of the South Dakota Senate, which has 35 members, and the South Dakota House of Representatives, which has 70 members. The two houses are similar in most respects; the Senate alone holds the right to confirm gubernatorial appointments to certain offices. In addition, the Senate votes by roll call vote, whereas the larger house uses an electronic voting system. The legislature meets at the South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The term is taken from the " whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack.
