''Singham'' is a 2011 Indian Hindi-language action film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Reliance Entertainment, based on a script by writers Yunus Sajawal and Farhad-Sajid. It serves as first installment of Shetty's Cop Universe. A remake of the 2010 Tamil film '' of the same title'' by Hari, the film stars Ajay Devgn in the lead role as a police officer named Bajirao Singham alongside Kajal Aggarwal and Prakash Raj who reprises his role as in original. It was theatrically released in India on 22 July 2011 with a strong box office response; the film earned 876 million in India on the first day and a worldwide total of against a budget, becoming a box-office blockbuster. The Cop Universe is an Indian media franchise and shared universe created by Rohit Shetty consisting of media focusing on police officers. The franchise includes films, animated series, video games and web series. The shared universe was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.
