Silesia football team ( pl, Reprezentacja Śląska) is an informal regional football team made up of players from football clubs located in Silesia, under the auspices of the Silesian Football Association ( pl, Śląski Związek Piłki Nożnej). Silesia (, also , ) is a historical region of Central Europe that lies mostly within Poland, with small parts in the Czech Silesia, Czech Republic and Germany. Jerzy Wostal
Jerzy Adolf Wostal (6 December 1914– 1991) was a Polish association football player, one of the best forwards of interwar Poland. He was born in 1914 in Königshütte (later Chorzów). In the late 1930s Wostal played for AKS Chorzów. The best year in his career was 1937. His team then became vice-champions of Poland (after Cracovia), and he was the top scorer of the Polish Football League, with 12 goals. On the Polish National Team he played in 10 games, scoring 4 goals. Wostal’s debut took place on 6 September 1936, in Riga (Latvia – Poland 3–3). He was also part of Poland's squad at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. One of the best matches in his career occurred on 10 October 1937 in Warsaw. In a 1938 FIFA World Cup qualifier Poland beat Yugoslavia 4–0 and Wostal scored one of the goals. Ryszard Błachut
Ryszard Błachut (14 September 1948 – 16 June 2017) was a Polish footballer who played as a forward for ROW Rybnik, GKS Jastrzębie and Austrian club First Vienna FC. Early life Błachut was born 1948 in Maków Podhalański, Poland, and started playing football at a young age before attending high school at the School Complex No. 2 in Wadowice. Club career Błachut started his career with Polish side ROW Rybnik, where he was regarded as a fan favorite and "exceptional striker". Altogether, he made 136 league appearances and scored 30 goals in the Polish Ekstraklasa, the Polish top flight. Joachim Jerzy Marx (born 31 August 1944) is a Polish former professional footballer who played as a striker. Besides Poland, he has played in France. On the national level, he played for Poland national team (23 matches/10 goals) and was a participant at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where his team won the gold medal. With Ruch Chorzów, he played 162 matches in the Ekstraklasa scoring 66 goals. With Marx, Ruch won the national championship (1974 and 1975), and the Polish Cup (1974). The Stadion Śląski ( en, Silesian Stadium) is a sport stadium located on the premises of Silesian Park in Chorzów, Poland. The stadium has a fully covered capacity of 55,211, after a recent refurbishment completed in October 2017. The stadium hosted many Polish national football team matches and for many decades was Poland's national stadium. After the National Stadium in Warsaw had been completed, the Silesian Stadium lost that role. The stadium was not in operation between 2009 and 2017 due to its ongoing reconstruction. Silesian Stadium is a UEFA Category 4 stadium and hosts the annual Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, a Diamond League meeting. The Poland national under-23 football team or Poland Olympic football team is the national under-23 football team of Poland and is controlled by the Polish Football Association. Olympic record Since 1992, the Olympic team must consist out of under-23 players plus three overage players.
