Claudia Roden (née Douek; born 1936) is an Egyptian-born British cookbook writer and cultural anthropologist of Sephardi/ Mizrahi descent. She is best known as the author of Middle Eastern cookbooks including ''A Book of Middle Eastern Food'', ''The New Book of Middle Eastern Food'' and ''Arabesque—Sumptuous Food from Morocco, Turkey and Lebanon''. Early life Roden was born in 1936 in Cairo, Kingdom of Egypt, the daughter of Cesar Elie Douek and his wife Nelly Sassoon. Her parents were from prominent Syrian-Jewish merchant families who migrated from Aleppo in the previous century; she grew up in Zamalek, Cairo, with two brothers, the surgeon Ellis Douek, and Zaki Douek. She was Egypt's national backstroke swimming champion at the age of 15. In 1951 Roden moved to Paris and went to boarding school for three years. Earl Of Roden
Earl of Roden is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1771 for Robert Jocelyn, 2nd Viscount Jocelyn. This branch of the Jocelyn family descends from the 1st Viscount, prominent Irish lawyer and politician Robert Jocelyn, the son of Thomas Jocelyn, third son of Sir Robert Jocelyn, 1st Baronet, of Hyde Hall (see below). He notably served as the Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1739 to 1756. In 1743, he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Newport, of Newport, and in 1755 he was further honoured, when he was made Viscount Jocelyn, also in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his son, the second Viscount. He represented Old Leighlin in the Irish House of Commons and served as Auditor-General of Ireland. Benjamin Roden
Benjamin Lloyd Roden (January 5, 1902 – October 22, 1978) was an American religious leader and the prime organizer of the Branch Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Association. Early life Benjamin Roden was born on January 5, 1902 in Bearden, Oklahoma (in what was then the Indian Territory) to a family of Jewish origin. His parents, James Buchanan Roden and Hattie Roden, had five other children. Little is known of Roden's early life but he grew up on a farm in Bearden and attended high school there before going to a teacher's college and then practising as a teacher for a brief period. Thereafter, he spent some time working on oil fields, first in Oklahoma and later in Odessa, Texas. Roden married Lois I. Scott on February 12, 1937. Roden Crater
Roden Crater is a cinder cone type of volcanic cone from an extinct volcano, with a remaining interior volcanic crater. It is located approximately 50 miles northeast of the city of Flagstaff in northern Arizona, United States. Art project Artist James Turrell acquired the 400,000-year-old, crater's land for a land art project. Turrell has since been transforming the inner cone of the crater into a massive naked-eye observatory, designed specifically for viewing and experiencing sky-light, solar, and celestial phenomena. Helen Roden
Helen Gloria Roden (born 26 March 1986) is a professional athlete who played for college basketball club TCU Horned Frogs and for Australian rules football club Collingwood in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Early life and state football Roden was born in Fiji and moved to Melbourne at the age of one. As a teenager she played in local football clubs, including six years at Oak Park where she won the best and fairest award, but moved to basketball since there were no girls' teams after the age of 16. She played for the Victorian School girls' basketball team from 1999 to 2003 and competed for the Australian School girls' basketball team from 2000 to 2003, before graduating from Penola Catholic College in 2003. Roden is a community in the Main-Spessart district in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Lower Franconia (''Unterfranken'') in Bavaria, Germany and a member of the ''Verwaltungsgemeinschaft'' (Administrative Community) of Marktheidenfeld. Geography Location Roden lies between Aschaffenburg (52 km) and Würzburg (32 km) on the edge of the Spessart (range). Roden Brothers
Roden Brothers was a Canadian tableware design and manufacturing company. It was founded on June 1, 1891 in Toronto by Thomas and Frank Roden. In the 1910s the firm became known as Roden Bros. Ltd. and were later taken over by Birks Group, Henry Birks and Sons in 1953. Roden Bros Ltd.'s silver was supplied by the province of British Columbia and with it they produced a wide range of silver holloware and Tableware, flatware in traditional English styles. The company offered a variety of flatware patterns that included Stratford, Queens, and Louis XV. Goldsmiths Stock Company were their exclusive selling agents from 1900 to 1922.
