Richard L. Breen
Richard L. Breen (June 26, 1918 – February 1, 1967) was a Hollywood screenwriter and director. Biography Breen was born in Chicago of Irish Catholic extraction. He began as a freelance radio writer. After a stint in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he began writing for films. He won an Oscar for his work on the screenplay to ''Titanic'' (1953), and was nominated for ''A Foreign Affair'' (1948) and ''Captain Newman, M.D.'' (1963). In 1957, he directed one film ''Stopover Tokyo'', and then returned to screenwriting. He was president of the Screenwriters' Guild from 1952–53. ''Miss Tatlock's Millions'' is an American screwball comedy film directed by Richard Haydn in 1948. Plot Movie stuntman Tim Burke is offered $1000 for a couple of days of work by Denno Noonan. Noonan was the "social secretary" for the mentally incompetent orphan Schuyler Tatlock. Schuyler's wealthy relations shipped him off to Hawaii to get him out of the way and paid Noonan very well to watch over him. However, Noonan got drunk two years ago, and when he returned home, he discovered that Schuyler had found some matches, started a fire and was burned to a crisp. Breen and John Twist is based on a book by Don Whitehead. Plot John Michael ("Chip") Hardesty ( James Stewart) describes a murder, seen in a flashback. He then narrates the incident in which Jack Gilbert Graham ( Nick Adams) took out life insurance on his mother and planted a bomb in her luggage for a flight she was taking from Denver, Colorado in 1955.
