Psi Omega () is an international professional fraternity for Dentistry. It was founded on June 8, 1892, ''"to maintain the standards of the profession, to encourage scientific investigation and literary culture."'' Psi Omega is the third professional dental fraternity to be formed, following Delta Sigma Delta (1882) and Xi Psi Phi (1889), and pre-dating Alpha Omega (1907). Psi Omega has 27 active chapters. History Psi Omega was first conceived during the 1891-1892 term by two students at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, William Sprigg Hamilton and J. George Schmetzer, both of the class of 1894, who determined to start a dental fraternity. These two men are considered the founders of the Fraternity. Hamilton wrote its first Ritual and Constitution, which was adopted on June 8, 1892. The Baltimore College of Dental Surgery was the first institution to offer a D.D.S. Blue
Blue is one of the three primary colours in the RYB colour model (traditional colour theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colour model. Sigma Phi Alpha () is a national honorary society serving the field of dental hygiene. History The Society originated at the March 1958 Business Meeting of the Dental Hygiene Education section of the American Dental Education Association (now American Dental Education Association). Constitution and Bylaws were accepted and Supreme Chapters officers were elected and empowered to see the organization of component chapters in schools with programs in Dental/Oral Hygiene. Most of the society's 139 chapters are in the United States, divided into three geographical regions. One chapter has been installed in Canada, at the University of Manitoba. Omicron Kappa Upsilon () is a national honorary society serving the field of dentistry. History The Society originated with the 1914 graduating class of the dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago. The idea for the fraternity came from the Dean of the Northwestern University Dental School, Dr. Green Vardiman Black, "G.V. Black", who soon invited the deans of 51 other dental school extant at the time to organize chapters of their own, forming a network of locals. The Society was incorporated on by the State of Illinois. It quickly expanded, with its ''Alpha'' through ''Kappa'' chapters considered to be "founding chapters." Omicron Kappa Upsilon's first Canadian chapter was ''Tau Tau'', at the University of Toronto, followed by chapters at the University of Manitoba, University of British Columbia, and the University of Western Ontario. Xi Psi Phi International Dental Fraternity () is an international professional fraternity for dentistry. It was founded on February 8, 1889. Xi Psi Phi was the second professional dental fraternity to be formed, following Delta Sigma Delta (1882) and pre-dating Psi Omega (1892) and Alpha Omega (1907). History Xi Psi Phi was organized on February 8, 1889 at the University of Michigan by Arthur A. Deyoe, Lewis C. Thayer, William F. Gary, Walter H. Booth, Gordon C. McCoy and Eldon Waterloo.
