The coat of arms of South Australia is the official symbol of the state of South Australia. It was granted by Queen Elizabeth II on 19 April 1984. They replaced a coat of arms granted to the State in 1936 by King Edward VIII. The shield has the piping shrike within a golden disc (officially said to represent the rising sun) on a blue background. The piping shrike is the unofficial bird emblem of South Australia and also appears on the State Badge. The crest is the Sturt's desert pea, the floral emblem of South Australia, on top of a wreath of the State colours. The coat of arms has no supporters, but a 1984 proposal showed koala and wombat supporters. 1905 South Australian State Election
State elections were held in South Australia on 27 May 1905. All 42 seats in the South Australian House of Assembly were up for election. The incumbent conservative government led by Premier of South Australia Richard Butler in an informal coalition with the liberals was defeated by the United Labor Party (ULP) led by Leader of the Opposition Thomas Price. 1893 South Australian Colonial Election
Elections were held in the colony of South Australia from 15 April to 6 May 1893. All 54 seats in the South Australian House of Assembly were up for election. Following the 1890 election, the Cockburn government lost a no-confidence motion moved by Thomas Playford II, who formed a government which lasted nearly two years. He was replaced by an equally progressive leader in Frederick Holder, but his ministry was defeated by the very conservative John Downer, who took the parliament into the election. Colonial elections were held in South Australia from 19 March to 21 April 1887. All 52 seats in the South Australian House of Assembly were up for election. Since the inaugural 1857 election, no parties or solid groupings had been formed, which resulted in frequent changes of the Premier. Colonial elections were held in South Australia from 9 April to 23 April 1890. All 54 seats in the South Australian House of Assembly were up for election. The Northern Territory became an electorate for the House of Assembly, increasing the House to 54 members, elected from twenty seven 2-member districts.
