Poland At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Poland competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's twentieth appearance at the Summer Olympics, having missed the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles because of the Soviet boycott. The Polish Olympic Committee ( pl, Polski Komitet Olimpijski, ''PKO'') sent a total of 218 athletes to the Games, 130 men and 88 women, to compete in 22 sports. Poland left London with a total of 11 Olympic medals (3 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze), tying with Beijing for the nation's highest overall number of medals. Two of the medals were awarded to the team in athletics, sailing, and weightlifting. Among the nation's medalists were shot putter Tomasz Majewski, who successfully defended his Olympic title from Beijing, and double sculls pair Magdalena Fularczyk and Julia Michalska, who became the first Polish women to claim an Olympic rowing medal in 32 years. Adrian Edward Zieliński (; born 28 March 1989) is a Polish weightlifter. He is the 2012 Olympic champion in the men's 85 kg category. Personal life Adrian Edward Zieliński was born on 28 March 1989 in Nakło nad Notecią. He is the brother of Tomasz Zieliński, who is also a weightlifter. Career Zieliński formerly competed in the 85 kg category. He won a gold medal at the 2010 World Championships in Antalya, Turkey with a 383 kg total. Tomasz Bernard Zieliński (; born 29 October 1990 in Nakło nad Notecią) is a Polish weightlifter. He won gold at the 2016 European Championships in the −94 kg category. Personal life Zieliński was born 29 October 1990 in Nakło nad Notecią. He is the brother of Adrian Zieliński, who is also a weightlifter. Career Zieliński represented Poland at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He placed 9th in the men's 94 kg event but was eventually awarded the bronze medal as 6 athletes ahead him tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs when their 2012 samples were retested in 2016. The rowing competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held from 28 July to 4 August 2012, at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, was officially termed Eton Dorney. Shooting competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place from 28 July to 6 August at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. Fifteen events were included with 390 athletes taking part. The events were the same as in 2008. The competitions were originally planned for the National Shooting Centre in Bisley, Surrey, and the temporary solution at the Royal Artillery Barracks (which is in the River Zone) was adopted later after the International Olympic Committee expressed concerns about the distance between London and Bisley. Since the pistols used in the 25m and 50m shooting events were deemed by HM Government as prohibited in England, Scotland and Wales after the Dunblane Massacre, special dispensation had to be granted by the UK Government and security criteria met by LOCOG to allow certain events to go ahead. Sylwia Katarzyna Bogacka (born October 3, 1981) is a Polish sports shooter. Bogacka was born in Jelenia Góra, Poland. Bogacka studied sociology at the University of Zielona Góra. She first competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Four years later, she reached the final of the 10 meter air rifle in 2008, placing eighth.
