Norrtälje Municipality
Norrtälje Municipality (''Norrtälje kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Norrtälje. It is the largest and northernmost municipality of Stockholm County and was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of several former municipalities. There are 25 original local government units (as of 1863) combined in the present municipality. Many of the houses in Norrtälje municipality are summer cottages, only inhabited during summertime. This is due to its geographical location by the Stockholm archipelago, which makes it popular among Stockholmers and tourists. Rimbo
Rimbo () is a locality situated in Norrtälje Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 4,629 inhabitants in 2010. Rimbo is located about 20 km west of the municipal seat of Norrtälje. Rimbo grew up as a railhead at the junction between the narrow gauge railways to Uppsala and Norrtälje (1884), Stockholm (1885) and Hallstavik (1896). The last line (to Stockholm, part of Roslagsbanan) was closed in 1981. Herräng
Herräng () is the northernmost locality in Norrtälje Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, with 422 inhabitants in 2010. It is located 40 kilometres north of the municipal seat Norrtälje along the coast of Singöfjärden, a bay on Roslagen. The town has a history of industry and mining. Today it is known mainly for being the site of one of the largest lindy hop dance camps in the world, the Herräng Dance Camp. Industrial history Herräng and the area with ore findings that the town is situated close to, ''Herrängsfältet'' is the biggest mining area within Stockholm County. Iron ore has been mined in Herräng since the late 16th century. Grisslehamn
Grisslehamn is a locality and port located on the coast of the Sea of Åland in Norrtälje Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. The locality had 249 inhabitants in 2010. The name Grisslehamn was first mentioned in a document from 1376 about the mail route between Sweden and Finland. This Grisslehamn was located some 20 km south of today's location. In the mid-18th century, most of the old village was destroyed in a fire, and it was decided to move Grisslehamn to its current location to make the mail route shorter. Conveying mail by row boat from Sweden to the Åland islands, whence it was transported to the Finnish mainland, was, together with fishing, one of the most important sources of income for the inhabitants of Grisslehamn and other parts of Roslagen for a long time, until steam ships took over the mail routes in the early 20th century. Gräddö
Gräddö is a locality in Rådmansö parish in Norrtälje Municipality in Roslagen. History Gräddö was first mentioned in documents in 1547. In 1739, the Swedish troops intended to be deployed in the War of the Hats embarked from here. In August 1809, the Swedish expeditionary force sailed from Gräddö to Ratan in Västerbotten to stop the Russian army from invading. At the end of the 19th century, Gräddö became a popular tourist destination and a number of towered summer houses were built in the area. Several guest houses were also started, Sjömans, Söderbergs, Strands, Skogshyddan, Ida Bergströms and Björkö örn. Gräddö also got a hot bath house, which, however, was moved to Gräddö-Asken in 1920.
