''Nightline'' (or ''ABC News Nightline'') is ABC News' late-night television news program broadcast on ABC in the United States with a franchised formula to other networks and stations elsewhere in the world. Created by Roone Arledge, the program featured Ted Koppel as its main anchor from March 1980 until his retirement in November 2005. Its current, rotating anchors are Byron Pitts and Juju Chang. ''Nightline'' airs weeknights from 12:37 to 1:07 a.m., Eastern Time, after ''Jimmy Kimmel Live!'', which had served as the program's lead-out from 2003 to 2012. In 2002, ''Nightline'' was ranked 23rd on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. Ted Koppel
Edward James Martin Koppel (born February 8, 1940) is a British-born American broadcast journalist, best known as the anchor for ''Nightline'', from the program's inception in 1980 until 2005. Before ''Nightline'', he spent 20 years as a broadcast journalist and news anchor for ABC. After becoming host of ''Nightline'', he was regarded as one of the outstanding serious-minded interviewers on American television. Five years after its 1980 debut, the show had a nightly audience of about 7.5 million viewers. After leaving ''Nightline'', Koppel worked as managing editor for the Discovery Channel, a news analyst for NPR and BBC World News America and a contributor to '' Rock Center with Brian Williams''. Hyunju "Juju" Chang (born September 17, 1965) is an American television journalist for ABC News, and currently serves as an anchor of ''Nightline''. She previously served as a special correspondent and fill-in anchor for ''Nightline,'' and was also the news anchor for ABC News' morning news program ''Good Morning America'' from 2009 to 2011. Early life Juju Chang was born in Seoul, Third Republic of Korea, to Okyong and Palki Chang and was raised in Sunnyvale, California, following her family’s emigration to the U.S. in 1969. Byron Pitts (born October 21, 1960) is an American journalist and author, working for ABC News as co-anchor for the network's late night news program, ''Nightline''. Until March 2013, he served as a chief national correspondent for '' The CBS Evening News'' and contributed regularly to ''60 Minutes''. Roone Pinckney Arledge Jr. (July 8, 1931 – December 5, 2002) was an American sports and news broadcasting executive who was president of ABC Sports from 1968 until 1986 and ABC News from 1977 until 1998, and a key part of the company's rise to competition with the two other main television networks, NBC and CBS, in the 1960s, '70s, '80s and '90s.
