National Parliament Of Papua New Guinea
The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea is the unicameral national legislature in Papua New Guinea. It was created in 1964 as the House of Assembly of Papua and New Guinea but gained its current name after the nation was granted independence in 1975. The 111 members of parliament serve five-year terms, 89 of whom are chosen from single-member "open" electorates, which are sometimes referred to as "seats" but are officially known as constituencies. The remaining 22 are chosen from single-member provincial electorates: the 20 provinces, the autonomous province of Bougainville (North Solomons), and the National Capital District. Each provincial member becomes governor of their province unless they take a ministerial position, in which case the governorship passes to an open member of the province. People's Party (Papua New Guinea)
The People's Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was founded in 2006 by Peter Ipatas, governor of Enga Province, following his resignation from the Papua New Guinea Party. The party won three seats at the 2007 election: Ipatas, Sailon Beseo (Kainantu Open) and Samson Kuli (Usino-Bundi). The party then supported Michael Somare for Prime Minister. It gained an additional MP in August 2010, when newly elected Wewak Open MP Dr Moses Manwau joined the party. During the attempts to topple Somare's government in his absence in 2011, the party strongly supported his designated Acting Prime Minister, Sam Abal. The People's Party won six seats at the 2012 election: Ipatas, John Pundari (Kompiam-Ambum Open), Robert Ganim (Wabag Open), Davis Steven (Esa'Ala Open), Mogerema Sigo Wei (Karimui-Nomane Open) and Westly Nukundi (Dei Open), while Kuli lost his seat. Our Development Party
The Our Development Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. The party was co-founded in 2011, after the O'Neill Government ousted the Somare Government, by Sir Puka Temu and Andy Kenemu. At the time, it had 25 members in the National Parliament. In the 2017 elections, the party won two seats, held by Francis Maneke and Temu. Both MPs left the party during the parliamentary term. As of May 2019, the party had 2 seats in the National Parliament. It is led by Temu, who is its sole MP. Temu returned to the party on 15 May 2019 after leaving People's National Congress. New Generation Party (Papua New Guinea)
The New Generation Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was established in 2006 by former Treasurer Bart Philemon and Lae businessman Bob Sinclair. It pledged to abolish provincial governments and administrators and ban the export of whole logs, switching to downstream processing of timber in Papua New Guinea. It stated that it would not work with the government of Michael Somare, and allied with Mekere Morauta's Papua New Guinea Party. It won four seats at the 2007 election, with Philemon becoming deputy opposition leader under Morauta. The party passed into government when Peter O'Neill ousted Somare in August 2011, and O'Neill appointed Philemon as Minister for Public Service in the new government. Melanesian Alliance Party
The Melanesian Alliance Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. The party was co-founded by John Momis and John Kaputin in the late 1970s. The party formed an association with the National Alliance Party prior to the 1997 general election, but relaunched as a separate party in February 2002 with three founding National Alliance members: Bernard Narokobi, Sir Moi Avei, and Dame Carol Kidu. Narokobi resumed the leadership, but lost his seat at the 2002 election. It returned three MPs at the 2002 election: Sir Moi Avei (Kairuku-Hiri Open), Anderson Vele (Rigo Open) and Dame Carol Kidu (Moresby South Open). Avei assumed the leadership; however, he was replaced by Kidu in May 2007 after a leadership tribunal recommended Avei's dismissal from office. Papua New Guinea Greens
The Papua New Guinea Greens Party or PNG Greens are a minor political party in Papua New Guinea. Founded in 2001, the party took part in the 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017 general elections, without winning a seat. They are a member of the Global Greens and of the Asia Pacific Greens Federation. Per its constitution, the party campaigns for environmentally sustainable development, participatory democracy, an "equitable distribution of social and natural resources ��to meet basic human needs unconditionally", and respect for "cultural, linguistic, ethnic, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity within the context of individual responsibility toward all beings". Bryan Jared Kramer
Bryan Jared Kramer is a Papua New Guinea politician and Member of the 10th and 11th Parliament of Papua New Guinea. He is also a businessman and social media strategist known for his Facebook page, The Kramer Report. Formerly a member of the Pangu Party, he founded the Allegiance Party, of which he is the sole MP, in 2018. He ran nine candidates in the 2022 National Elections, including one in each of Madang's seven electorates. Kramer was returned with a sizeable majority, but was unsuccessful in securing the election of another Party member. He was suspended from office on 30 September 2022 pending the outcomes of a leadership tribunal. Allegiance Party (Papua New Guinea)
The Allegiance Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was founded in May 2018 by Member for Madang open the Honourable Bryan Kramer MP. He is the only Member of the National Parliament for the Party. The party has a strong anti-corruption focus; the motto is "Loyalty to God and Country." On its launch, Kramer claimed to have attracted almost 9,000 members, an unusually large number for Papua New Guinea political parties that have been slow to draw on a public support base. However, a lack of subsequent activity and updates suggests much of this membership may have lapsed or be non-financial. Notable supporters of and advisors to the party include party President Chief Ila Geno, former Chief Ombudsman, Public Service Commission chairman and Police Commissioner. The Papua New Guinea National Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was formed in September 1969 by Thomas Kavali, Sabumei Kofikai and Siwi Kurondo when the three MPs broke away from the Compass Party. It was formally launched on 14 November 1969. (Kofikai later rejoined the Compass Party). Paul Pora and later Iambakey Okuk were also prominent members. At the 2002 election, the party won 3 of 109 seats.
