Mu Alpha Phi
Mu Alpha Phi () is a sorority established in Puerto Rico on October 24, 1927. It is considered to be the first Puerto Rican fraternities and sororities, Puerto Rican sorority founded in the island. The sorority has Alumni and University chapters across the Island and an Alumni chapter in Orlando, FL. History The sorority that pioneered the greek world movement for women in the island was established in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus on October, 1927. Arecibo
Arecibo (; ) is a city and municipality on the northern coast of Puerto Rico, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, located north of Utuado and Ciales; east of Hatillo; and west of Barceloneta and Florida. It is about west of San Juan, the capital city. ''Sor'' Isolina Ferré Aguayo (5 September 1914 – 3 August 2000) was a Puerto Rican Roman Catholic religious sister. Known as the "Mother Teresa of Puerto Rico", she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of her humanitarian work. Ferré Aguayo was born in Ponce to a wealthy family. She was one of six siblings, Jose, Carlos, Hernan, Rosario and Luis, Puerto Rico's former governor. When she was 21, Ferré traveled to the United States where she commenced her novitiate. After five years, she completed the solemn vows. As part of her religious work, Ferré traveled back and forth between Puerto Rico and the United States, serving as an abbess in Cabo Rojo and New York City. ''Nuestra Belleza Latina 2008'' was the second season of ''Nuestra Belleza Latina'', which premiered in February 2008 on Univision. Auditions were once again held in five major U.S. cities (Los Angeles; Houston; Miami; Chicago; and New York City) and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During the audition process, 75 young women were given passes to the semifinals in Miami, Florida. The elimination process was quick, with 15 women leaving the first week, 40 in the second week, and finally, on March 28, 2008, eight women were eliminated leaving the 12 finalists who moved into a Miami mansion, where they lived for the rest of the competition. Each week, viewers had the chance to vote for their favorite finalists. This is a list of mayors of Ponce, Puerto Rico's southern economic center, the island's second largest and second most important city. Delis Castillo Rivera de Santiago (born ca. 1945) was interim mayor of Ponce from 2004 to 2005. ''Objetivo Fama'' (sometimes abbreviated as ''OF'', Spanish for ''Target: Fame'') is a Puerto Rican singing talent contest that aired for over six years on WLII, the Univision outlet in Puerto Rico; and on Telefutura in the mainland United States. It is produced by Ender Vega and ''Soraya Sánchez'' ES Television. The program was loosely inspired by the late Puerto Rican singing talent contest and variety show, Voces en Función, and the Spanish reality show, Operación Triunfo.
