Mota (formerly ''Sugarloaf Island'') is an island in the Banks group of northern Vanuatu, with a population of about 700. Name The name ''Mota'' is an adaptation of the local name ''M̄ota'' . Cognates in other Torres-Banks languages include Mwotlap ''Am̄ot'' , Vera'a ''M̄ō'o'' , and Vurës ''M̄ot'' . They are all derived from a form *''mʷota'' in Proto-Torres-Banks, referring to the island. The form is possibly cognate with Proto-Polynesian * ''motu'' "island", from Proto-Oceanic ''*motus'' "broken off, detached". The same root is found in Mota Lava, the name of an island north of Mota ‒ etymologically, "big Mota". Geography Mota is located 18 km south of Mota Lava and 12 km east of Vanua Lava, the second-largest island in the Banks archipelago. Mota ( Amharic: ሞጣ) is a town in northwest Ethiopia. It is located in the Misraq Gojjam Zone of the Amhara Region on the secondary road that links Dejen with Bahir Dar overlooking the Abay River. The town has a latitude and longitude of with an elevation of 2,487 meters above sea level. One local landmark is Sebara Deldiy or "the Broken Bridge", a stone footbridge built by foreign stoneworkers during the reign of Emperor Fasilides. C.T. Beke was told that the central arch of this bridge was removed at the orders of Ras Fasil as a defensive measure. Despite the damage, Beke reports that it was still used by native merchants, who "by means of ropes stretched across the open space, they manage to pass with their merchandise from the one side to the other, without entering, the stream." ''Ixnay on the Hombre'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band the Offspring, released on February 4, 1997, by Columbia Records. Sir Mota Singh, QC (26 July 1930 – 13 November 2016) was a British judge who was noted for being the United Kingdom's first Asian judge. Early life Singh was born in 1930 in Nairobi, Kenya. Career After a short stint as a clerk at the East African Railways and Harbours, he joined a European firm of lawyers in Nairobi. He was married meanwhile to Swaran Kaur in 1950 and a daughter was born a year later. He continued his Bar studies. In 1953, Singh accompanied by his wife and daughter went to England. After passing the Bar final examinations in 1955, he returned to Kenya in 1956, to start his own practice as a barrister in Nairobi. He also entered politics and was elected a City Councillor and then elevated to the position of alderman of the City of Nairobi. João Soares da Mota Neto (born 21 November 1980), also known as Mota, is a Brazilian football striker who last played for Ferroviário. Career Mota began his career with Ceará Sporting Club in 1998, then went to play for Spanish side RCD Mallorca B from 1999 to 2001. He was suspended by the club in April 2001 after a Royal Spanish Football Federation investigation into the veracity of his Portuguese passport that he was using to work in the European Union; he said that he was entitled to it due to having a Portuguese great-grandmother. He was banned for a year by Spain's Court of Sport, which found that he obtained the passport illegally in 1998. Mota then went back to Brazil and played for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube scoring 32 goals in the league. MOTA was a motorcycle brand created by MOTA Maschinenbau GmbH in Nagold, Baden-Württemberg. History MOTRA Maschinenbau was founded in 1946 in Nagold by Wolfgang Schlegel, an amateur pilot and constructor. At first, the company manufactured different components for the automotive and mechanical engineering industries in Germany. In 1950 MOTRA renamed the company to MOTA Maschinenbau GmbH and also enlarged the production of components: motorcycle engines, mopeds, lightweight motorcycles and vices were established.
