Montenegro At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Montenegro competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's second appearance at the Summer Olympics. Montenegrin Olympic Committee sent a total of 34 athletes to the Games, 18 men and 16 women, to compete in 7 sports. Most of them participated in team-based sports, particularly in the men's water polo, and women's handball. Pistol shooter Nikola Šaranović, who competed in his second Olympics for the independent nation, was the oldest member of the team, at age 41. Meanwhile, judoka Srđan Mrvaljević, who was elected as the "best athlete of the year" in 2011 by the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, became the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Montenegrin Olympic Committee
The Montenegrin Olympic Committee ( Montenegrin: Црногорски олимпијски комитет / Crnogorski olimpijski komitet) is the National Olympic Committee representing Montenegro. It is responsible for promoting the Olympic ideals and for ensuring that Montenegro is represented with athletes at the Olympic Games and other multi-sport events. Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Marathon
The women's marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on the Olympic marathon street course on 5 August. The course started and finished on The Mall in central London. Runners completed one short circuit of 2.219 miles around part of the City of Westminster and then three longer circuits of 8 miles around Westminster, the Victoria Embankment and the City of London. The course was designed to pass many of London's best known landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul's Cathedral, the Guildhall, Leadenhall Market, the Monument, the Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. Tiki Gelana from Ethiopia won the gold medal, completing the course in an Olympic record-breaking time of 2 hours 23 minutes 7 seconds. Slađana Perunović
Slađana Perunović-Pejović (born 26 March 1984) is a Montenegrin long-distance runner and holder of several Montenegrin records. She placed 77th out of 118 in the 2012 Olympic marathon. She did not finish her 2016 Olympic marathon. Running career The 2009 Summer Universiade was held in Belgrade and she competed in both the women's 800 metres and the women's 1500 metres. At the 2011 Summer Universiade she placed 13th out of 22 runners in the women's half marathon with a time of 1:22:16. Perunović achieved the Olympic "B" standard at the Podgorica Marathon in October 2011, finishing in 2:41:02, therefore gaining a spot on the Montenegro team for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The men's discus throw was a competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event was held at the Olympic Stadium on 6–7 August. Forty-one athletes from 24 nations competed. The event was won by Robert Harting of Germany, the nation's first victory in the men's discus throw since 1996 and second overall (not counting those won by East and West Germany). Ehsan Haddadi earned Iran's first medal in the event with his silver. Gerd Kanter of Estonia became the 15th man to win multiple medals in the event, adding a bronze to his 2008 gold. Virgilijus Alekna of Lithuania narrowly missed being the second man to win four medals in the event, finishing fourth. Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Qualification
For the athletics competitions at the 2012 Summer Olympics the following qualification systems were in place. The list has been updated to 30 June 2012. Qualification ended on 8 July 2012. Qualifying standards A National Olympic Committee (NOC) may enter up to 3 qualified athletes in each individual event if all athletes meet the A standard, or 1 athlete per event if they meet the B standard. An NOC may also enter a maximum of 1 qualified relay team per event. NOCs may enter athletes regardless of time (1 athlete per sex) if they have no athletes meeting the qualifying A or B standards. This makes it possible for every nation to have a minimum of two representatives in the sport. The qualifying time standards may be obtained in various meets during the qualifying period that have the approval of the IAAF. The handball tournaments at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 28 July to 12 August in the Olympic Park. Preliminary rounds and the quarter-finals were held in the Copper Box while the semi-finals and final took place in the larger Basketball Arena.
