Mongolia At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Mongolia competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's twelfth appearance at the Olympics, except the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, because of its partial support to the Soviet boycott. The Mongolian National Olympic Committee sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games since 1992. A total of 29 athletes, 16 men and 13 women, competed in 7 sports. The Mongolian team featured past Olympic champions, including judoka Naidangiin Tüvshinbayar, who became the nation's first ever gold medalist, and pistol shooter Otryadyn Gündegmaa, who won the silver in Beijing. Marathon runner Ser-Od Bat-Ochir, who competed at his third Olympics, was Mongolia's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Mongolian National Olympic Committee ( mn, Монголын Үндэсний олимпийн хороо) is the National Olympic Committee representing Mongolia. History The Mongolian National Olympic Committee was established on February 26, 1956, and sanctioned by the MPRP Central Committee and the Council of Minister of the Mongolian People's Republic, People's Republic of 2-joint 42/37 on April 26, 1956. It has since become an independent non-government organization in order to comply with the International Olympic Committee, International Olympic Games Charter and Rules. Lee Sung-Jin
Lee Sung-jin (; born March 7, 1985) is a recurve archer from South Korea. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning in the women's team event at the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2005, she became the women's individual recurve champion at the World Championships and achieved the world number one spot for female recurve archers in the World Archery Rankings. Jennifer L. Nichols Hardy (born October 4, 1983) is an archer from the United States. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Nichols started archery when she was twelve years old and at fifteen she won the National Youth Archery Competition. 2004 Summer Olympics Nichols represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 19th in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 638. In the first round of elimination, she faced 46th-ranked Puspitasari Rina Dewi of Indonesia. Nichols defeated Puspitasari 160-141 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. In that round, she faced 14th-ranked Ukrainian archer Tetyana Berezhna. Alison Williamson
Alison Jane Williamson MBE (born 3 November 1971) is a retired British archer who represented Great Britain at six consecutive Olympic Games from 1992 to 2012. She won a bronze medal in the women's individual event at the 2004 Summer Olympics, becoming the first British woman to win an Olympic archery medal in ninety-six years. Williamson achieved two medals at the World Archery Championships and represented England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, winning two silver medals. Rahul Banerjee (born 15 December 1986) is an Indian Olympic and Arjuna Awardee archer. Career Banerjee started archery at the age of thirteen. His sister Dola Banerjee is also an Olympic archer. His first international appearance was in Youth World Championship in 2004; he won a team silver medal, which was the first world level medal for Indian archers. The women's individual archery event at the 2012 Olympic Games was held from 27 July to 2 August 2012 at Lord's Cricket Ground in London in the United Kingdom. The event was one of four which comprised the 2012 Olympic archery programme of sports and was the eleventh time the women's individual competition was contested as an Olympic event. Forty different nations qualified for the competition, sending a total of sixty-four archers to compete. The men's individual archery competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 27 July to 3 August at Lord's Cricket Ground. Oh Jin-Hyek of South Korea won the gold medal, followed by Takaharu Furukawa from Japan with silver and Dai Xiaoxiang, representing China, with the bronze. Competition format The competitors were ranked 1st to 64th based on their ranking round results and seeded into a head-to-head knock-out bracket based on this ranking. The 2012 Olympics introduced a new format for the knockout rounds. Each head-to-head match was a best-of-five sets match where each competitor shoots three arrows per set.
