Michel Giacometti
Michel Giacometti (8 January 1929, Ajaccio, France – 24 November 1990, Faro, Portugal) was a French ethnomusicologist from Corsica who made important field recordings in Portugal. Biography Born in Ajaccio, Corsica on 8 January 1929, Giacometti moved to Portugal in 1959. In the following 30 years, he dedicated his life to travelling across Portugal, studying and recording popular oral traditions which were being lost or forgotten. He died in Faro, Portugal on 24 November 1990. Ajaccio
Ajaccio (, , ; French: ; it, Aiaccio or ; co, Aiacciu , locally: ; la, Adiacium) is a French commune, prefecture of the department of Corse-du-Sud, and head office of the '' Collectivité territoriale de Corse'' (capital city of Corsica). It is also the largest settlement on the island. Ajaccio is located on the west coast of the island of Corsica, southeast of Marseille. The original city went into decline in the Middle Ages, but began to prosper again after the Genoese built a citadel in 1492, to the south of the earlier settlement. After the Corsican Republic was declared in 1755, the Genoese continued to hold several citadels, including Ajaccio, until the French took control of the island. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Ajacciens'' (men) or ''Ajacciennes'' (women). Museum Of Portuguese Music
The Museum of Portuguese Music ( pt, Museu da Música Portuguesa) is a small museum housed in the Casa Verdades de Faria in Estoril, municipality of Cascais, Portugal, on the Portuguese Riviera. It contains a collection of Portuguese musical instruments and other items, as well as a music documentation centre, and is also used for recitals. The building The attractive building that houses the museum was commissioned in 1918 by O'Neill dynasty, Jorge O'Neil, a Portuguese / Irish aristocrat and businessman. O’Neill was also responsible for the construction of the Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum, Tower of San Sebastián and the Casa de Santa Maria, Cascais, Casa de Santa Maria, both in neighbouring Cascais.
