McGregor, Western Cape
McGregor is a small village in the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa. It is roughly 150 km east of Cape Town. It is located in Ward 5 of the Langeberg Municipality. According to the Census 2001, this Ward has a population of 10,254 people (Stats SA, 2001). The village was established in 1861 and was originally called Lady Grey. It was renamed in 1905 in honour of Rev. Andrew McGregor, who had been the Dutch Reformed Church minister of the Robertson District for forty years. It has become somewhat of a magnet for alternative lifestyles. The local Waldorf school has roughly 167 children. McGregor is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,976 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. A strong EF2 tornado struck the town on January 16, 2022, causing major damage. Geography McGregor is located in central Lee County at (26.563603, -81.909692), in an unincorporated part of the county. McGregor Links is a golf club located just outside Saratoga Springs, New York in the town of Wilton. As of 2015, McGregor is the fifth-largest course in the Capital District. The course is semi-private; it is open to the public every day but Tuesday and Thursday. McGregor Links has been the site of seven New York State Amateur Golf Championships and two US Open local qualifiers. It is the home course of Skidmore College's golf team. The course was built in 1921 by former state senator, businessman, and attorney Edgar T. Brackett. McGregor (Port Gibson, Mississippi)
McGregor, now located on SR 547 in Port Gibson, Mississippi, is a country house built in 1835. It was designed in Greek Revival style. It is privately owned and not open to the public. The one-and-a-half story house was designed and/or built by planter and Judge Peter Aaron Van Dorn (1773-1837) for one of his daughters, likely as a wedding present. The gable-frame wooden residence in built on the center hall plan. The house has inset galleries along the north (front) and south (rear) facades. About 1850, an ell was added to the west facade. and ' Van Dorn was born in New Jersey in 1773, had a law degree from Princeton, and came to the Mississippi Territory at the age of twenty-one.
