Lesotho At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Lesotho competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, which was held from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The country's participation at London marked its tenth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its début at the 1972 Summer Olympics. The delegation included three track and field athletes; Tsepo Mathibelle, Tsepo Ramonene, Mosito Lehata and Mamorallo Tjoka, and one swimmer; Masempe Theko. Ramonene and Lehata qualified for the Games by meeting qualification standards, while Tjoka and Theko made the Olympics through Wild card (sports), wildcard places. Tjoka was selected as the flag bearer for the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, opening ceremony while Lehata held it at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, closing ceremony. Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon
The Diacore Gaborone Marathon is a marathon in Gaborone, Botswana. The marathon is governed by the International Association of Athletics Federations and the Botswana Athletics Association. It is open for to ages 19 and up, and the race is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and the 2012 Olympic Marathon in London. The marathon is the second of its kind in Botswana, after the Bosele Marathon in Selebi-Phikwe. History The marathon was first established as the Gaborone City Marathon in 2009 and was first run on 18 April 2010. The 2011 race was cancelled due to financial issues. Tsepo Ramonene
Tsepo Ramonene Mathibelle (born 30 June 1991) is a long-distance runner from Lesotho. Mathibelle took up running aged 14. He ran his first marathon in 2012 and qualified for the 2012 Olympics. He ran his second marathon at the Olympics and finished last in a time of 2:55:54. After walking the majority of the last 3 km, Ramonene summoned the strength to jog over the finish line nearly 48 minutes behind the race winner. Shortly after the crowd cheered him to the finish line, he collapsed with exhaustion. He went to the 2015 Marathon Championships in Beijing, leading the break at 30 km, and then fading to 14th, to finish in 2:17:17. He failed to finish the 2016 Olympic marathon.
