''Led Zeppelin'' is the debut studio album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released on 12 January 1969 in the United States and on 31 March in the United Kingdom by Atlantic Records. The album was recorded in September and October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London, shortly after the band's formation. It contains a mix of original material worked out in the first rehearsals, and remakes and rearrangements of contemporary blues and folk songs. The sessions took place before the group had secured a recording contract and totalled 36 hours; they were paid for directly by Jimmy Page, the group's founder, leader and guitarist, and Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant and cost £1,782 () to complete. George Hardie (artist)
George Hardie (born 1944) is an English graphic designer, illustrator and educator, best known for his work producing cover art for the albums of rock musicians and bands with the British art design group Hipgnosis. After attending St. Martin’s and the Royal College of Art in London, Hardie partnered in Nicholas Thirkell Associates (NTA Studios) collaborating with Bob Lawrie, Bush Hollyhead and Malcolm Harrison, as well as Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis. His work includes the cover artwork for Led Zeppelin's debut album, ''Led Zeppelin'' (1969); Pink Floyd's ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' (1973) and ''Wish You Were Here'' (1975); and Genesis' ''The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'' (1974). Led Zeppelin's 1968 tour of Scandinavia was a concert tour of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway by the English rock band. The tour commenced on 7 September and concluded on 24 September 1968. It was Led Zeppelin's first concert tour. However, the band was billed under the name "The Yardbirds" at the time. Procol Harum () were an English rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea, Essex in 1967. Their best-known recording is the 1967 hit single " A Whiter Shade of Pale", one of the few singles to have sold over 10 million copies. Terrance James Reid (born 13 November 1949) is an English rock vocalist and guitarist. He has performed with high-profile musicians, as a supporting act, session musician, and sideman. Biography Reid was born in Paxton Park Maternity Home, Little Paxton, St Neots, Huntingdonshire, England. He lived in the village of Bluntisham and attended St Ivo School, St Ives. Christopher Walenty Dreja (born 11 November 1945 in Surbiton, Surrey) is an English musician, best known as the rhythm guitarist and bassist for rock band the Yardbirds for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Early life Chris Dreja was born in Surbiton, and raised in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. His father was of Polish descent. His brother Stefan Dreja happened to meet guitarist Top Topham, and introduced him to his brother. James Stanley McCarty (born 25 July 1943) is an English musician, best known as the drummer for the Yardbirds and Renaissance. Following Chris Dreja's departure from the Yardbirds in 2013, McCarty became the only member of the band to feature in every line up. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 as a member of the Yardbirds. Early life He was born at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, England, but his family moved to London when he was two years old. William Keith Relf (22 March 194312 May 1976) was an English musician, best known as the lead vocalist and harmonica player for rock band the Yardbirds. He then formed the band Renaissance with his sister Jane Relf, The Yardbirds ex-drummer Jim McCarty and ex-The Nashville Teens keyboardist John Hawken. Early life Relf was born in the Richmond Institution on 22 March 1943 to Mary Elsie Relf (née Vickers) and William Arthur Percy Relf. Keith had a sister Jane.
