Konya
Konya () is a major city in central Turkey, on the southwestern edge of the Central Anatolian Plateau, and is the capital of Konya Province. During antiquity and into Seljuk times it was known as Iconium (), although the Seljuks also called it Darü'l-Mülk, meaning "seat of government". In 19th-century accounts of the city in English its name is usually spelt Konia or Koniah. As of 2021, the population of the Metropolitan Province was 2,277,017, making it the sixth most populous city in Turkey, and second most populous of the Central Anatolia Region, after Ankara . Of this, 1,390,051 lived in the three urban districts of Meram, Selçuklu and Karatay. Konya is served by TCDD high-speed train ( YHT) services from Istanbul and Ankara. Selimiye Mosque, Konya
Selimiye Mosque (Selim II Mosque, tr, Selimiye Camisi) is a 16th-century Ottoman mosque in Konya, Turkey. Location The mosque is in the Karatay secondary municipality of Konya. It is situated in the business center of the city to the east of the Aziziye Mosque. The mosque was built next to the funerary shrine complex of Mevlana Celalüddin Rumi, a Persian sufi mystic (today the Mevlâna Museum). History The mosque had been commissioned in 1558 by Selim II while he was still a şehzade (prince) working as a sanjak governor. Although the mosque was constructed while Mimar Sinan held the post of chief architect, the building is not listed in any of his autobiographies. In Konya Sinan only lists the renovation of a hospice. The construction was completed in 1570 after Selim became the sultan. Later it was repaired three times; in 1685, 1816 and 1914. Yüksek Hızlı Tren
Yüksek Hızlı Tren or YHT ( en, High Speed Train) is a high-speed rail service in Turkey, operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, and is the railway's premier intercity train service. As of 2022, the network spans and services major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Eskişehir, İzmit and Konya. Expansion of the system is underway and the network is expected to reach Sivas, Edirne, Afyonkarahisar, Adana and İzmir in the 2020s. High-speed rail in Turkey was originally planned to be built as early as 1975, but it wasn't until 2003 when the construction of the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed railway began. The first section was completed in 2007, between Eskişehir and Esenkent with passenger operations beginning on 13 March 2009 between Eskişehir and Ankara. Konya Airport
Konya Airport ( tr, Konya Havalimanı) is a military air base and public airport in Konya, Turkey. The airport is also used by NATO. Opened to the public in 2000, the airport is 18 km from the city. In 2006, Konya Airport served 2,924 aircraft and 262,561 passengers. The passenger terminal of the airport covers an area of 2,650 m2 and has parking for 278 cars.
