Karawang (Kota Karawang or Karawang Kota) is the capital of the Karawang Regency of West Java, Indonesia. It is 32 miles east of Jakarta, and had a population of 307,880 at the 2020 Census, spread over two districts of the regency - West Karawang and East Karawang. Karawang is known as a major rice production source in West Java. Karawang is also known for automobile manufacturing facilities, including Honda Prospect Motor and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia. Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia also operated a plant here from 1988 until 2015. History In March 2010 Karawang suffered severe flooding with 10,747 houses flooded; 11,540 families and 44,071 people were affected. Heinrich Christian Macklot, a German naturalist, was killed on 12 May 1832 during an insurrection that took place on the island. Karawang Regency
Karawang Regency is a regency ''(kabupaten)'' of West Java, Indonesia. The town of Karawang is its administrative centre. The regency covers an area of 1,753.27 km2 and had a population of 2,127,791 people at the 2010 Census, which grew to 2,361,019 at the 2020 Census. The official estimate for mid 2021 was 2,406,900 for a density of 1,372.8 people per km2. The regency borders Bekasi and Bogor regencies in the west, the Java Sea in the north, Subang Regency in the east, Purwakarta Regency in the southeast, and Cianjur Regency in the south. The regency lies on the eastern outskirts of Metropolitan Jakarta, just outside the Jabodetabek region, and is the site of industrial activity (like factories). Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road
The Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road or Japek toll road is an expressway that was inaugurated in 1988. The highway links Jakarta with cities to its east in the province of West Java, in Indonesia. History Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road was inaugurated in 1988, linking Jakarta, Bekasi, Bekasi Regency, Karawang Regency and Purwakarta Regency. Since 2005, this toll road also connects Bandung and Jakarta via the separate Cipularang Toll Road; the interchange to Bandung was built before the Dawuan exit. This toll road is also part of AH2. The toll road is operated by PT Jasa Marga Tbk. In June 2015, Cikopo–Palimanan Toll Road was opened, which means Jakarta and Cirebon are now connected via toll road. Cellica Nurrachadiana (born 18 July 1980) is an Indonesian politician and doctor who is the regent of Karawang Regency, West Java. First holding political office in 2009 as a provincial councillor, she became deputy regent the following year, and was acting regent by 2014. She was reelected in 2015. Background Nurrachadiana was born in Bandung on 18 July 1980. After completing high school in Bandung, she earned a bachelor's degree in medicine from Maranatha Christian University and a master's degree in health law from Soegijapranata Catholic University. Heinrich Christian Macklot
Heinrich Christian Macklot (20 October 1799, Frankfurt am Main – 12 May 1832) was a German naturalist. He studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg, earning his doctorate in 1822. Later that year, he found employment at the Rijksmuseum in Leyden. With Heinrich Boie and Salomon Müller, he was sent to Asia in order to collect specimens for the museum as part of the ''Natuurkundige Kommissie'' (Natural Science Commission). Macklot visited New Guinea and the island of Timor from 1828 to 1830 on board the HM corvette ''Triton''. He was killed on 12 May 1832 during an insurrection that took place on the island of Java.
