Kalsoy ( da, Kalsø) is an island in the north-east of the Faroe Islands of Denmark between Eysturoy and Kunoy. The name means man island; by contrast with the parallel island to the east, Kunoy, the name of which means woman island. The northernmost part and scenery of Kalsoy was used as stand-in for the Kuril Islands in eastern Russia while filming for the 25th James Bond movie ''No Time to Die''. In the film, which was released in 2021, the villain’s lair is located on the island, for which a harbour and missile silos were superadded digitally. Kalsoy, like Svínoy, is a comparatively isolated island, in that no bridge, tunnel, or causeway links to it. Húsar
Húsar ( da, Husum) is a village on the island of Kalsoy in the Faroe Islands. History Húsar is located on the east coast and the southern part of the island of Kalsoy. Húsar is connected to Klaksvík by a ferry that visits the village three times a day. From Húsar the other villages on the island can be reached by bus. Húsar is the oldest of the villages on Kalsoy. Húsar church, which is made of stone, was built in 1920. On 1 January 2017, the municipality of Húsar was fused into Klaksvík municipality. The majority of the former municipality's employees are affiliated with the primary industries; fisheries and livestock. Húsar is involved in fish farming, particularly the production of fry and fingerling. The fry are grown for 1½ to 2 years. After that it is placed in sea farms where it will grow into adult fish. Mikladalur
Mikladalur, meaning "great valley or dale" is the largest of four villages on the northern Faroese island of Kalsoy in the municipality of Klaksvík. It is situated in a large U-shaped valley on the east coast of the island. The town's stone church dates from 1856. A tunnel to Trøllanes to the north was completed in 1985. Legend of the Selkie Mikladalur has a legend of a selkie/sealwoman. Seals were believed to be former humans who voluntarily sought death in the ocean. Once a year, on Twelfth Night, they were allowed to come on land, strip off their skins and amuse themselves as human beings, dancing and enjoying themselves. A young farmer from Mikladalur once went to the beach to watch the selkies dance. There he sees a beautiful selkie maiden shedding her seal skin, and he is hit by an intense desire for her. Syðradalur
Syðradalur (, is a village on the island of Kalsoy, one of the Faroe Islands. Syðradalur is the southernmost village on the island, and is in Húsar Municipality. On 1 January 2009, Syðradalur had nine inhabitants, down from 12 in 1985. Bjørn Kalsø comes from Syðradalur. History Syðradalur is a settlement village ( fo, niðursetubygd) founded at the beginning of the 19th century by inhabitants of the village of Blankskáli on the south-west of the island. Syðradalur was previously inhabited in the 17th century, but the reason it was abandoned is unknown. In 1855, a boat from the village was sunk on a large boulder. In 1963, another boat from the village, this time carrying three men, was also sunk. A tunnel system was built in 1985 linking Syðradalur with the other villages on the island. Klaksvík
Klaksvík is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands behind Tórshavn. The town is located on Borðoy, which is one of the northernmost islands (the Norðoyar). It is the administrative centre of Klaksvík municipality. History The first settlement at Klaksvík dates back to Viking times, but it was not until the 20th century that the district merged to form a large, modern Faroese town that became a cultural and commercial centre for the Northern Isles and the Faroe Islands as a whole. Klaksvík is located between two inlets lying back to back. It has an important harbour with fishing industry and a modern fishing fleet. Originally, four farms were located where Klaksvík is now. Trøllanes
Trøllanes ( da, Troldenæs) is a village at the northern end of the Faroese island of Kalsoy in the municipality of Klaksvík. Its postal code is FO 798. A tunnel to the village of Mikladalur to the south, the Trøllanestunnilin, was completed in 1985. Trøllanes is noted for its meat specialty, Garnatálg, made by kneading sheep fat. Trøllanes and Mikladalur formerly constituted the commune of Mikladalur, before being incorporated into Klaksvík. The name of the village means 'Troll peninsula'. The village name Origin story is that in the old days, the village was visited every Twelfth Night, by trolls from the surrounding mountains, and the villagers had to flee and seek shelter for the night in the neighbouring village of Mikladalur. Selkie
In Celtic and Norse mythology, selkies (also spelled ', ', ') or selkie folk ( sco, selkie fowk) meaning 'seal folk' are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They are found in folktales and mythology originating from the Northern Isles of Scotland. The folktales frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, thus exhibiting the tale motif of the swan maiden type. There are counterparts in Faroese and Icelandic folklore that speak of seal-women and seal-skin. Svínoy
Svínoy ( da, Svinø) is an island located in the north-east of the Faroe Islands, to the east of Borðoy and Viðoy. It takes its name from Old Norse, Svíney, meaning "Swine Isle". Svinoy also refers to a section of the ocean where North Atlantic water flows into the Norwegian Sea. There is a similarly named island, Swona, in the Orkney Islands. Svínoy like Kalsoy is a comparatively isolated island, in that there are no bridge, tunnel or causeway links to it. There are boat and helicopter connections.
