Järvenpää (; sv, Träskända) is a town and municipality in Finland. It is located on the Helsinki–Riihimäki railway track in Uusimaa region, some north of Helsinki. Neighbouring municipalities are Tuusula, Sipoo and Mäntsälä. People also refer to Kerava as Järvenpää's neighbour, even though they do not technically share a border, thanks to the one kilometre-wide land area that belongs to Tuusula. History The first documented mention of the village of Järvenpää is found in a tax list from 1540, where it is named in Swedish as ; starting from the next decade, its Finnish name was used in parallel, in forms such as ''Jerffuepä'' or ''Järuenpää''. Around this time, the village was documented to consist of eight estates. Ainola
__NOTOC__ (literal English translation: "Aino's Place") is a museum in Järvenpää, Finland, that originally was the home of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, his wife Aino (née Järnefelt), and their six daughters. Situated on the shores of Lake Tuusulanjärvi north of Helsinki, the two-story, wooden home was designed by the Finnish architect Lars Sonck; the foundation was laid in the spring of 1904, and the Sibelius family began occupying the residence in September. The Ministry of Education and the Sibelius Society of Finland have jointly operated Ainola since 1974. The following is a list of cities in Finland. In the year 1977, the legal difference between towns and municipalities was removed. Today they are all classified as municipalities, some of which are commonly referred to as cities ''(kaupunki'' in Finnish, ''stad'' in Swedish). A municipality can decide whether it calls itself a municipality or a city. but ''suurkaupunki'' (~ large town) is used for a few cities in Finland. This fits the EU's definition of a city, which has the criteria of a minimum population of 50,000 and a minimum population density of 500 inhabitants per square kilometer.
