Joe Joyce (footballer)
Joseph Patrick Joyce (born 18 March 1961) is an English former footballer who made 479 appearances in the Football League playing for Barnsley, Scunthorpe United, Carlisle United and Darlington. He played as a right back. He was appointed Academy Director at Newcastle United in 2006. Playing career Born in Consett, County Durham, Joyce made more than 350 appearances for Barnsley, where he began his career. He later played for Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United and had a brief loan spell at Darlington. Coaching career Joyce began his coaching career with Carlisle United, and was assistant manager of the club under Mervyn Day until 1997. Joseph Obey Joyce (born 19 September 1985) is a British professional boxer who has held the WBO interim heavyweight title since September 2022. At a regional level, he held the British, Commonwealth, WBC Silver, and WBO International heavyweight titles from 2020 to 2022, and the European heavyweight title from 2020 to 2021. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal at the 2013 European Championships; gold at the 2014 Commonwealth and 2015 European Games; bronze at the 2015 World Championships; and silver at the 2016 Olympics. As of October 2022, he is ranked as the world's second-best active heavyweight by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, fourth by ''The Ring'' magazine, and sixth by ESPN and BoxRec. Joe Joyce (born 7 February 1994) is an English-born, Irish-qualified rugby union player. He plays lock for Irish United Rugby Championship side Connacht having previously played for English Premiership Rugby side Bristol Bears. He is lovingly known as "The King of the Mead" by Bristol fans after a commentator coined the phrase. He played over 150 games for Bristol and scored 8 tries. He was named Player of the Match in his United Rugby Championship debut for Connacht against the Ospreys in October 2023.
