Høyer-Ellefsen A/S was a Norwegian company. It was established in 1896 by the ingenieur Sigurd Høyer-Ellefsen. He was managing director until 1925. In 1902, it became a stock based company. In 1981, the company was taken over by Orkla, that merged the company with Astrup & Aubert (est. 1933), creating Astrup Høyer. Astrup Høyer was taken over by Aker Norcem (later Aker AS) in 1986 and was rebranded to Aker Entreprenør, bringing an end to the Høyer name at the company. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Paper editions 1978–2007 The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Up until 1978 the two publishing houses of Aschehoug and Gyldendal, Norway's two largest, had published ' and ', respectively. The respective first editions were published in 1907–1913 (Aschehoug) and 1933–1934 (Gyldendal). ''Oslo byleksikon'' ( en, Oslo City Encyclopaedia) is an encyclopaedia on Oslo, Norway's capital city. It has been published in five editions since 1938. The third, fourth and the fifth editions were published in cooperation between the heritage association Selskabet for Oslo Byes Vel and the publishing house Kunnskapsforlaget. The latest edition was published in 2010, comprising approximately 6,100 entries. Editions First edition (1938) The first edition of ''Oslo byleksikon'' was published by the Tanum publishing house. Sigurd Høyer-Ellefsen
Sigurd ( non, Sigurðr ) or Siegfried ( Middle High German: ''Sîvrit'') is a legendary hero of Germanic heroic legend, who killed a dragon and was later murdered. It is possible he was inspired by one or more figures from the Frankish Merovingian dynasty, with Sigebert I being the most popular contender. Older scholarship sometimes connected him with Arminius, victor of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. He may also have a purely mythological origin. Sigurd's story is first attested on a series of carvings, including runestones from Sweden and stone crosses from the British Isles, dating from the eleventh century.
