Johann Otto Hoch
Johann Otto Hoch (also known as The Bluebeard Murderer and Chicago Bluebeard) (1855 – February 23, 1906) is the most famous and last-used alias of a German-born murderer and bigamist, John Schmidt. He was found guilty of the murder of one wife but is thought to have killed more, perhaps up to 50 victims. He was hanged. Early life Hoch was born John Schmidt in 1855, at Horrweiler, in the Grand Duchy of Hesse (present-day Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). He emigrated to the United States in the 1890s and dropped his surname in favor of assorted pseudonyms where he began to marry a string of women, frequently taking the name of his most recent victim. August Hoch
August Hoch (20 April 1868 – 23 September 1919) was a Swiss–American psychiatrist who was the third director of the New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York City from 1 February 1910 to 1 October 1917. As a neuropathologist and clinician, he exerted his influence on psychiatric developments during the early 20th century in the United States. Biography He was born Charles August Hoch (and would sign legal documents with his full name) in Basel, Switzerland, the son of a minister, who was also director of the Basel University Hospital. Arriving in Baltimore on the passenger shoip "Rhein" on 3 August 1886 at the age of 19, he emigrated to the United States to pursue his medical education. Beverly Hoch (born August 26, 1951) is an American coloratura soprano and music educator who has had an active performance career in operas, concerts, and on recordings since the late 1970s. She has been teaching at Texas Woman's University since 2007. Life and career Born in Marion, Kansas, Beverly is the daughter of Wharton Hoch and great-granddaughter of E. W. Hoch. Lambert Anthony Hoch
Lambert Anthony Hoch (February 6, 1903 – June 27, 1990) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Bismarck (1952–1956) and Bishop of Sioux Falls (1956–1978). Biography Early life Lambert Hoch was born on February 6, 1903, in Elkton, South Dakota, to George and Philomena (née Kniest) Hoch, the youngest of their nine children. After graduating from Elkton High School, he entered Creighton University at Omaha, Nebraska in 1920. James Hoch is an American poet. Biography The son of a teacher-coach and a saleswoman, Hoch grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey, with three older siblings. Hoch studied philosophy at Millersville University and graduated from University of Maryland with an MFA in creative writing/poetry. He has taught at Franklin and Marshall College and Lynchburg College. He now teaches in the Salameno School of Humanities and Global Studies at Ramapo College in New Jersey. Prior to teaching, Hoch worked as a dishwasher, dock worker, cook, social worker, and shepherd. Hannah Höch (; 1 November 1889 – 31 May 1978) was a German Dada artist. She is best known for her work of the Weimar period, when she was one of the originators of photomontage. Photomontage, or fotomontage, is a type of collage in which the pasted items are actual photographs, or photographic reproductions pulled from the press and other widely produced media. Höch's work was intended to dismantle the fable and dichotomy that existed in the concept of the "New Woman": an energetic, professional, and androgynous woman, who is ready to take her place as man's equal. Her interest in the topic was in how the dichotomy was structured, as well as in who structures social roles. Other key themes in Höch's works were androgyny, political discourse, and shifting gender roles. Joseph Paul Johannes Hoch (3 May 1815 – 19 September 1874) was a German lawyer and benefactor. He willed his fortune to the Hoch Conservatory Foundation, founded in 1878 in Frankfurt. It is, after Leipzig and Berlin, the seventh oldest music conservatory in Germany. He was born and died in Frankfurt am Main. Life Hoch came from a family which had been in Frankfurt am Main for generations. All four of his grandparents had lived there. His father, the lawyer Johann Peter Hieronymus Hoch (1779 – 1831), was a magistrate and senator who, in 1829, became mayor of the Free City of Frankfurt. His mother, the Swiss-born Ottilie von Sodenstern, was also the child of a magistrate and senator. He began to learn piano and violin at a young age. Adolf Hoch (June 17, 1910 – May 24, 1992) was an Austrian architecture, architect. He was born in Vimperk, Winterberg, Austria-Hungary, Austrian-Hungarian Empire. In 1948 he won a gold medal in the art competitions of the Olympic Games for his "Skisprungschanze auf dem Kobenzl" ("Ski jumping hill on the Kobenzl"). Hoch was the last Austrian gold medalist in art competition. He was the architect of the Opernpassage in Vienna, a pedestrian underpass of the most busy crossroads of the city near the opera house. It was built in 1955 and opened on 4 November 1955, one day before the reopening of the Vienna State Opera after World War II. Matthew Hoch (born December 29, 1975 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American academic and teacher of singing. Hoch is currently professor of voice at Auburn University, where he teaches applied voice, lyric diction, and vocal literature courses. From 2006–2012 he was assistant professor of voice at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, where he was a member of the voice faculty, taught vocal literature, and served as coordinator of voice studies.
