Hirzel is a former municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. On 1 January 2018 the former municipality of Hirzel merged into the municipality of Horgen. History Hirzel is first mentioned in 1269 as ''Hirsol''. Geography Hirzel spans an area of . Of this area, 68.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 18.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 9.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (3.3%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). housing and buildings made up 7.2% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (2.2%). Horgen is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. It is one of the larger towns along the south bank of the Lake of Zurich. On 1 January 2018 the former municipality of Hirzel merged into the municipality of Horgen. History Horgen is also the type-site of Switzerland's middle Neolithic archaeological culture. Neuheim
Neuheim is a municipality in the canton of Zug in Switzerland. History Neuheim is first mentioned in 1080 as ''Niuheim''. In 1173 the parish church of St. Blasien was built and Neuheim became the center of the parish of Neuheim. The parish was originally part of Einsiedeln and in 1363 was transferred to Kappel Abbey. In 1512 the Abbey sold the rights to the parish income to the parish of Menzingen and also to the parish of Neuheim. Then, finally in 1675 the parish acquired complete rights to its income. Almost two centuries later, in 1848, the municipality joined the parish and became independent of Menzingen. Geography Neuheim has an area, , of . Johanna Spyri
Louise Spyri (; ; 12 June 1827 – 7 July 1901) was a Swiss author of novels, notably children's stories, and is best known for her book '' Heidi''. Born in Hirzel, a rural area in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers near Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels. Biography In 1852, Johanna Heusser married Bernhard Spyri. Bernhard was a lawyer. Whilst living in the city of Zürich she began to write about life in the country. Her first story, ''A Leaf on Vrony's Grave'', which deals with a woman's life of domestic violence, was published in 1880; the following year further stories for both adults and children appeared, among them the novel '' Heidi'', which she wrote in four weeks.
