Hetauda
Hetauda ( ne, हेटौडा, ) is a sub-metropolitan city in the Makwanpur District of Bagmati Province in central Nepal. It is the administrative headquarters of the Makwanpur District and the capital of Bagmati Province as declared by majority (105 out of 110) Provincial Assembly Members on 12 January 2020. It is one of the largest cities of Nepal. At the time of the 2015 Nepal census, it had a population of 153,875 people. The city had a population of 195,951 in 2021. Hetauda sub-metropolitan city is situated in the confluence of the two prominent national highways viz. Tribhuvan highway and Mahendra highway. It was declared a municipality in 1969 A.D (2026 B.S), but development was sluggish. Momentum increased when the city became headquarters of the Makwanpur district in 1982A.D (2039 B.S). Mahendra Highway
Mahendra Highway (), also called East-West Highway () runs across the Terai geographical region of Nepal, from Mechinagar in the east to Bhim Datta in the west, cutting across the entire width of the country. It is the longest highway in Nepal and was constructed by cooperation of various countries. Overview The highway is mostly a single lane in each direction. Karra River
The Karra River (Karra Khola or Karrakhola in Nepali) is a river in Makawanpur district of Bagmati Province in Nepal. A right tributary of the East Rapti River, it originates in the north-eastern Siwalik hills. It has numerous tributary rivulets. It flows from east to west direction. It is one of the main tributaries of the East Rapti. It flows through the middle of Hetauda sub-metropolitan city, before draining into East Rapti along with Kukhreni, another (minor) right tributary of East Rapti, in the outskirts of the city, forming a holy Triveni Sangam. Tribhuvan Highway
The Tribhuvan Highway () connects the outskirts of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with Birganj/ Raxaul on the Nepal- India border. NH 28 and NH 28A links Raxaul with Lucknow/Barauni and other locations in India. History Known informally as Byroad, the Tribhuvan Highway is the oldest and the first highway of Nepal and it links Naubise, west of Kathmandu with the Indian border at Birgunj/Raxaul.
