Green Party (Norway)
The Green Party ( nb, Miljøpartiet De Grønne, nn, Miljøpartiet Dei Grøne, sme, Birasbellodat Ruonát, ) is a centre-left green political party in Norway. The party holds three seats in the Parliament of Norway (gaining 3.8% in the 2021 elections) and also has representation in municipal councils and county councils (gaining 6.8% in the 2019 elections). The Green Party advocates green politics, and has been described as centre-left by academics and voters. The party itself claims distance from the two dominant right-wing and left-wing political blocks, jointly denominated as "the fossil block", and have stated their refusal to form a government with any parties that will continue to drill for oil in the North Sea. The Green Party is a member of the European Green Party and the Global Greens, and was founded with the German Greens as its stated model. Arild Hermstad
Arild Hermstad (born 15 October 1966) is a Norwegian politician for the Green Party, who has served as the party leader since 2022. He previously served as Party spokesperson, alongside Une Bastholm, from 2018 to 2020, and then the deputy leader from 2020 to 2022. Personal life and education Education Hermstad took his secondary education at Bergen Cathedral School in 1985. After studying economics for two years at the Norwegian School of Economics, Hermstad enrolled at the University of Bergen whence he graduated with a major in social geography in 1995. Hanna Marcussen
Hanna Elise Marcussen (born 4 September 1977) is a Norwegian politician for the Green Party. She currently serves as Oslo’s City Commissioner for Urban Development. Career She served as national spokesperson for the Norwegian Green Party in the years 2008–2014. She was also elected as a deputy member of Oslo city council in 2011 and 2015. In November 2012, she lost a fight against Rasmus Hansson for the top spot on the party's ballot for the 2013 Norwegian parliamentary election. Climate Change
In common usage, climate change describes global warming—the ongoing increase in global average temperature—and its effects on Earth's climate system. Climate change in a broader sense also includes previous long-term changes to Earth's climate. The current rise in global average temperature is more rapid than previous changes, and is primarily caused by humans burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuel use, deforestation, and some agricultural and industrial practices increase greenhouse gases, notably carbon dioxide and methane. Greenhouse gases absorb some of the heat that the Earth radiates after it warms from sunlight. Larger amounts of these gases trap more heat in Earth's lower atmosphere, causing global warming. Rasmus Johan Michael Hansson (born 4 September 1954) is a Norwegian biologist, civil servant, environmental activist and a former national spokesperson for the Green Party. He led the Norwegian chapter of World Wide Fund for Nature from 2000 to 2012. 2013 Norwegian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Norway on 8 and 9 September 2013 to elect all 169 members of the unicameral Storting. The centre-right coalition obtained 96 seats, while the incumbent red–green coalition government obtained 72 seats and the Green Party obtained one. The Labour Party won the largest share (30.8%) of the votes cast, with the Conservatives coming second (26.8%), after increasing its share by 9.6 percentage points. Elections in Norway are held on a Monday in September, usually the second or third Monday, as determined by the king-in-council (i.e. the government).
