Gravelly Hill is an area of Birmingham, United Kingdom. Location Gravelly Hill is approximately 4 miles north-east of Birmingham city centre. To the north-west is Perry Barr and to the north-east are Stockland Green, Erdington and Sutton Coldfield. Aston is to the west and Washwood Heath lies to the south. The housing in the area is mostly Victorian and pre-war with some recent developments of modern apartments. Housing in the area is popular with students (particularly those attending Aston University) given its good transport links to the main campus. Spaghetti Junction The Gravelly Hill Interchange, also known as Spaghetti Junction, provides the intersection between the A38(M) Aston Expressway from the centre of Birmingham to the M6 motorway. The 1979 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 3 May 1979 to elect 635 members to the British House of Commons. Cross-City Line
The Cross-City Line is a commuter rail line in the West Midlands region of England. It runs for from Redditch and Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, its two southern termini, to Lichfield, Staffordshire, its northern terminus, via Birmingham New Street, connecting the suburbs of Birmingham in between. Services are operated by West Midlands Trains. Cross-City Line services began in 1978, as a project of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive (WMPTE) to improve local rail services. Gravelly Hill Railway Station
Gravelly Hill railway station serves the Gravelly Hill area of Birmingham, England. It is situated on the Redditch-Birmingham New Street-Lichfield Cross-City Line. Opened in 1862, the station was built by the London and North Western (LNWR) railway company on their line between Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. The only remaining original feature is the booking office building, which is unusual in having 2 storeys, and having access to the ticket office via the upper level. Other buildings and an early wooden footbridge were removed with the electrification of the Cross City line in 1992 by British Rail. The waiting areas on the platforms were replaced by modern "bus shelter" type structures on each platform. The footbridge was replaced by a modern metal structure. M6 Motorway
The M6 motorway is the longest motorway in the United Kingdom. It is located entirely within England, running for just over from the Midlands to the border with Scotland. It begins at Junction 19 of the M1 and the western end of the A14 at the Catthorpe Interchange, near Rugby before heading north-west. The Gravelly Hill Interchange, popularly known as Spaghetti Junction, is a road junction in Birmingham, England. It is junction 6 of the M6 motorway where it meets the A38(M) Aston Expressway in the Gravelly Hill area of Birmingham. The interchange was opened on 24 May 1972.
