The Glyphipterigidae are a family of small moths commonly known as sedge moths, as the larvae of many species feed on sedge The Cyperaceae are a family of graminoid (grass-like), monocotyledonous flowering plants known as sedges. The family is large, with some 5,500 known species described in about 90 genera, the largest being the "true sedges" genus ''Carex'' wit ...s and rushes. More than 500 species have been described in the family. Characters The moths have a wingspan of 7 to 16 millimeters.They have a slender and elongated body. Abrenthia
''Abrenthia'' is a genus of Glyphipterigidae (sedge moths). It was described by August Busck in 1915, and contains only one species ''Abrenthia cuprea''. This species is found in North America, including Florida, Illinois and Iowa. The wingspan is 9–12 mm. Adults have an orange head with black antennae. The forewings are dark metallic blue to greenish blue without markings. The hindwings are grey. There is probably one generation per year. Adults have been recorded from mid-to late June.
