HMS ''Gleaner'' was the mercantile ketch ''Gleaner'', launched in 1802. She served the Royal Navy as the "hired ketch ''Gleaner''" from 12 July 1808 until the Navy purchased her in 1809. Initially she served as a light vessel and survey vessel. From early 1811 to August 1811 she served in the Mediterranean, where she captured an Ottoman vessel. She then became a yard lighter and a light vessel again. Then in 1812 she was on the North American station where she participated in the capture of several merchant vessels. Next she returned to the Mediterranean where she captured a privateer. Finally, she served off the north coast of Spain where she was wrecked on 2 March 1814. ''The Henderson Gleaner'' (also known as ''The Gleaner'') is the daily newspaper in Henderson, Kentucky. The newspaper is published Tuesday through Sunday mornings. It has not been published on Mondays since it was founded in the 1880s. ''The Gleaner'' was locally owned for more than a century, but was purchased by A. H. Belo in March 1997, before being acquired by the E. W. Scripps Company on October 31, 2000, becoming part of the ''Evansville Courier & Press''. ''The Gleaners'' is a debut studio album by American jazz bassist Larry Grenadier. The record was released by ECM on February 22, 2019, on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download. Background This is a rare bass-only record. Grenadier, in fact, uses the double bass as two instruments, playing both pizzicato and arco. The album title was inspired by Agnès Varda’s documentary film ''The Gleaners and I'', itself inspired by an oil painting by Jean-François Millet completed in 1857. The album contains 12 solo tracks that include Grenadier's originals as well as compositions written by George Gershwin, John Coltrane, Paul Motian, Rebecca Martin, and Wolfgang Muthspiel. ''The Gleaners'' (''Des glaneuses'') is an oil painting by Jean-François Millet completed in 1857 in art, 1857. It depicts three peasant women gleaning a field of stray stalks of wheat after the harvest. The painting is famous for featuring in a sympathetic way what were then the lowest ranks of rural society; it was received poorly by the French upper classes. ''The Daily Gleaner'' is a morning daily newspaper serving the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the upper Saint John River Valley. The paper is published Monday through Saturday and began operating in 1880. In April 2006, the paper switched from afternoon to morning publication. The offices of the ''Daily Gleaner'' are located on Alison Boulevard on the city's south side. The ''Gleaner'', as it is called locally, is part of Brunswick News Inc. K.C.
