Flower Pot Men
''Flower Pot Men'' is a British programme for young children produced by BBC Television. It was first transmitted in 1952, and repeated regularly for more than twenty years. A remake of the programme called '' Bill and Ben'' was broadcast in 2001. The original programme was part of a BBC children's television series titled '' Watch with Mother'', featuring a different programme each weekday, most of them involving string puppets. Premise ''Flower Pot Men'' features the story of Bill and Ben, two men made of terracotta flower pots who live at the bottom of an English garden. A third character, Little Weed, of indeterminate species resembling either a sunflower or a dandelion with a smiling face, is shown growing between two large flowerpots. Freda Lingstrom
Freda Violet Lingstrom OBE (23 July 1893 – 15 April 1989) was a BBC Television producer and executive, responsible for pioneering children's programmes in the early 1950s. She and her friend Maria Bird together created '' Andy Pandy'' and '' The Flower Pot Men''. Early life and career Lingstrom was born in Chelsea, London, the daughter of George Lingstrom, a copperplate engraver, and Alice Clarey Anniss. Her paternal grandparents were Swedish. She attended the Central School of Arts and Crafts and became an artist. Lingstrom gained her first job at Alf Cooke's London works as a designer, where she stayed for 15 months. After periods at Carlton Studios and Norfolk, Lingstrom decided in 1922 to work on her own. Her first clients were railway companies, including the London and North Eastern Railway, the Underground Group and the Norwegian state railway. ''Thomas & Friends'' is a British children's television series which aired from 9 October 1984 to 20 January 2021. Based on ''The Railway Series'' books by Wilbert Awdry and his son Christopher, the series was developed for television by Britt Allcroft. The series centers on various anthropomorphic engines as well as other vehicles living on the fictional Island of Sodor. Initially being filmed in live action on model sets, whereas the latter half of its run was produced using CGI, over 500 episodes were produced over the course of 24 series. "Let's Go to San Francisco" is the only UK-charting single by the British pop group The Flower Pot Men. The song was written and produced by John Carter and Ken Lewis, engineered by John Mackswith and released in 1967 on 7" single format. Carter also sang the lead vocal in the recording. It is regarded as a work of the 1960s California Sound. Reception The song was a Top 10 hit single in a number of countries. It peaked at No. 12 in New Zealand, No. 9 in Norway, No. 8 in Ireland and No. 4 in the United Kingdom. Carter was joined in harmonies by Tony Burrows; both were part of The First Class' single " Beach Baby", which quotes the melody of "Let's Go To San Francisco" at the end. Stroke is a medical condition in which poor cerebral circulation, blood flow to a part of the brain causes cell death.
