Federal National Council
The Federal National Council (FNC) ( ar, المجلس الوطني الإتحادي, ''al-Majlis al-Watani al-Ittihadi'') of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is an advisory quasi-parliamentary body in the UAE. The FNC consists of 40 members. Twenty of the members are indirectly elected by the hand-picked 12% of Emirati citizens who have voting rights through an electoral college, while the other twenty are appointed by the rulers of each emirate. According to Reuters, "the process of selecting the people who can either elect or be elected is opaque." The first election for half the members of the FNC took place in 2006. Members of the FNC serve 4-year terms. The last election for the indirectly elected members took place on 5 October 2019, and the next election is to be held in October 2023. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. The Emirate of Ajman ( ar, إمارة عجمان; ) (Gulf Arabic: إمارة عيمان emāratʿymān) is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. 2006 Emirati Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary election were held for the first time in the United Arab Emirates in December 2006 to elect half of the 40 members of Federal National Council. Voting took place in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on 16 December, in Dubai and Ras al-Khaimah on 18 December, and in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm al-Quwain on 20 December. Electoral system The 40 members of the Federal National Council consisted of 20 elected members and 20 members appointed by the rulers of each Emirate. Amal Al Qubaisi
Amal Al Qubaisi (born 18 October 1969) was the speaker of the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council (FNC) from 2015 to 2019. She was first female leader of a national assembly in the United Arab Emirates and the Arab world. Before holding the position she was the chairwomen of the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Career and education In 2000, Al Qubaisi earned her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and holds the world’s only doctoral degree on the conservation of the UAE’s architectural heritage. Mohammad Ahmad Mohammad Al Murr Al Falasi (born 1955 in Dubai) is a short-story writer from the United Arab Emirates. He has published over 15 volumes of short stories and has had two collections translated into English: ''Dubai Tales'' and ''The Wink of the Mona Lisa''. Al Murr graduated from Syracuse University in the United States, and has been a member of a number of UAE academic institutions and councils. Taryam Omran Taryam (1942–2002) was the co-founder of Dar Al Khaleej Printing & Publishing, a publishing house based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
