The Parliament of Aruba ( pap, Parlamento di Aruba, nl, Staten van Aruba) is the unicameral legislature or parliament of Aruba. The parliament has 21 members, elected for a four-year term by proportional representation. Each member holds their seats until the parliament is dissolved, which is every four years by a general election. The leader of the party which gains a majority of seats usually becomes the Prime Minister. Results of most recent election 2021 The most recent elections were held on 25 June 2021, and resulted in a coalition government between the People's Electoral Movement (MEP) and RAIZ. Parliament building In 1975, the parliament building was opened for the Island Council of Aruba. ''Status aparte'' refers to the special status of Aruba between 1986 and 2010 as a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, separate from the Netherlands Antilles to which it belonged until 1986. With the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in October 2010, the term ''status aparte'' was no longer used, as the status of Aruba was no longer separate, but rather the norm for all countries within the Kingdom. Democratic Network (''RED Democratico'', RED) is a progressive, green political party in Aruba. Since the 2017 Aruban general election it has one seat in the Estates of Aruba and is part of the government coalition under Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes. History founded the party. During the 2005 Aruban general election the party obtained 3330 votes which was sufficient for 1 out of 21 seats. In 2009 and 2013 it participated but did not obtain a seat. The Aruban Patriotic Party (Papiamento: ''Partido Patriotico Arubano'', PPA) is a political party in Aruba. It was founded in 1949. Prior to Aruba's independence, it was a supporter of a unified, independent Netherlands Antilles.
