Edgeworthstown or Mostrim () is a small town in County Longford, Ireland. The town is in the east of the county, near the border with County Westmeath. Nearby towns are Longford 12 km to the west, Mullingar 26 km to the east, Athlone 40 km to the south and Cavan 42 km to the north. Name The area was named Edgeworthstown in the 19th century after the Anglo-Irish Edgeworth family. An estate was built there by Richard Lovell Edgeworth. His family—which includes Honora Sneyd (his second wife), writer and intellectual Maria Edgeworth, botanist Michael Pakenham Edgeworth, economist Francis Ysidro Edgeworth, and priest Henry Essex Edgeworth—lived at the estate. Edgeworth's limit theorem is an economic theorem created by Francis Ysidro Edgeworth that examines a range of possible outcomes which may result from free market exchange or barter between groups of people. It shows that while the precise location of the final settlement (the ultimate division of goods) between the parties is indeterminate, there is a range of potential outcomes which shrinks as the number of traders increases. Edgeworth is a suburb of Greater Newcastle, City of Lake Macquarie local government area in New South Wales, Australia, located west of Newcastle's central business district. History Aboriginal This area was traditionally occupied by the Awabakal people. 1870s – 1890s Edgeworth was originally known as Cocked Hat Creek in the 1870s and early 1880s. It was renamed to Young Wallsend in 1885. The Young Wallsend Coal Company opened a colliery in 1890. The colliery ceased operations in the early 1900s, and the site was bulldozed in 1992 to build a housing estate. The Traveller's Rest Hotel (now Edgeworth Tavern) opened in the 1890s. The first post office opened in February 1891. Young Wallsend School (now Edgeworth Public School) opened in April 1891. Edgeworth is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, along the Ohio River approximately 14 miles (22.5 km) northwest of Pittsburgh. The population was 1,680 at the 2010 census.
