Dimbokro
Dimbokro is a town in south-central Ivory Coast. It is the seat of both Lacs District and N'Zi Region. It is also the seat of and a sub-prefecture of Dimbokro Department. Dimbokro is also a commune. The town is located along the river N'Zi, approximately 50 km southeast of the official capital of Ivory Coast, Yamoussoukro. Dimbokro is connected by both road and railway from the country's commercial capital and ''de facto'' political capital Abidjan on the coast. Except for a textile factory, the town is of limited size and economic importance. Dimbokro is otherwise known as the birthplace of the country's current president, Alassane Ouattara and African reggae superstar Alpha Blondy. Dimbokro Department
Dimbokro Department is a department of N'Zi Region in Lacs District, Ivory Coast. In 2021, its population was 102,192 and its seat is the settlement of Dimbokro. The sub-prefectures of the department are Abigui, Diangokro, Dimbokro, and Nofou. History Dimbokro Department was created in 1969 as one of the 24 new departments that were created to take the place of the six departments that were being abolished. It was created from territory that was formerly part of Centre Department. Using current boundaries as a reference, from 1969 to 1980 the department encompassed the following territory: all of Moronou Region; all of N'Zi Region; and Daoukro and Ouellé Departments in Iffou Region. N'Zi Region
N'Zi Region is one of the 31 regions of Ivory Coast. Since its establishment in 2011, it has been one of the regions in Lacs District. The seat of the region is Dimbokro and the region's population in the 2021 census was 254,623. N'Zi is the only region is the country that does not border another district—it is entirely surrounded by other regions of Lacs District. Nzi River Bridge Collapse
On 6 September 2016, the railway bridge over the Nzi River collapsed, cutting the rail link between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. Lacs District
Lacs District (french: District des Lacs) is one of fourteen administrative districts of Ivory Coast. The district is located in the central part of the country. The capital of the district is Dimbokro. Creation Lacs District was created in a 2011 administrative reorganisation of the subdivisions of Ivory Coast.Décret n° 2011-263 du 28 septembre 2011 portant organisation du territoire national en Districts et en Régions. Seydou Koné (; born January 1, 1953 in Dimbokro), better known by his stage name Alpha Blondy, is an Ivorian reggae singer and international recording artist. Many of his songs are politically and socially motivated, and are mainly sung in his native language Dyula, French and English, though he occasionally uses other languages, for example, Arabic or Hebrew. Early years Childhood The first son of a family of eight children, Seydou Koné was raised by his grandmother in an environment described by him as "among elders", which was to have a big impact on his career. In 1962, Alpha Blondy joined his father in Odienné, where he spent ten years, attended Sainte Elisabeth High School, and was involved in the Ivory Coast students movement. Sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast (french: sous-préfectures de Côte d'Ivoire) are the fourth-level administrative subdivisions of the country. There are currently 510 sub-prefectures. They were created in 2011, when the administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast were reorganised. In Ivory Coast, there are 14 first-level districts (including two autonomous districts) sub-divided into 31 regions, which are sub-divided into 108 departments (french: départements), which are further sub-divided into 510 sub-prefectures. The sub-prefectures contain more than 8000 villages nationwide. Where needed, multiple villages have been combined into 197 communes. The regions of Ivory Coast (french: régions de la Côte d'Ivoire) are the second-level subdivisions of Ivory Coast. There are 31 regions, and each region is subdivided into two or more departments, the third-level division in Ivory Coast. Two to four regions were combined to make up a district, the first-level subdivision, that was abolished in 2014. The two autonomous districts of Ivory Coast are not divided into regions.
