The species are annual herbs found from the Mediterranean Basin, Mediterranean to Central Asia and the Arabian Peninsula. One species (''Crucianella angustifolia, C. angustifolia'') is naturalized in northern California, southern Oregon (Josephine County), and Idaho (Clearwater County, Idaho, Clearwater County).
