CDGVAL
CDGVAL is a free shuttle rail service at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), using the VAL (English: ''automatic light vehicle)'' driverless, rubber-tyred people mover technology. The first line, which connects the three airport terminals, train stations, and parking lots, opened on 4 April 2007. The second line, which connects Terminal 2 to two satellite terminals, opened on 27 June 2007. Since 2015, the two lines have been operated by Transdev on a 24-hour basis. The 60 million annual passengers of the airport and its 85,000 employees generate an annual traffic of 10 million journeys on CDGVAL. Aéroport Charles De Gaulle 1 (Paris RER)
Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 is one of two railway stations at Charles de Gaulle Airport, the primary airport for the Paris region and the largest in France. The station is served by RER B (a hybrid suburban commuter and rapid transit line that offers services to Paris) and CDGVAL (a free rail shuttle service around the airport grounds). Despite being named after Terminal 1, the station is actually located relatively far from the terminal, but it can be accessed with a short ride on the CDGVAL. Terminal 3 can also be accessed from this station by a five-minute walk on a pathway. The station is located inside Roissypôle, a development that includes office buildings (including the headquarters of Air France), shopping areas, hotels, and the primary bus station for the airport. ''Véhicule Automatique Léger'' () or VAL is a type of driverless (automated), rubber-tyred, medium-capacity rail transport system (people mover). The technology was developed at the Lille University of Science and Technology, was marketed by Matra, and first used in the early 1980s for the Lille Metro system, one of the world's first fully automated mass-transit rail networks, preceded only by the Port Island Line in Kobe, Japan. The VAL technology is now marketed by Siemens, which acquired Matra in the late 1990s. A total of 11 lines in 8 systems based on the VAL technology are currently in operation worldwide. Orlyval is a light metro shuttle service at Paris's Orly Airport using the Véhicule Automatique Léger (VAL, English: ''automatic light vehicle)'' driverless, rubber-tyred people mover technology. The line, which opened on 2 October 1991, offers free service between the two airport terminal stations, and premium fare service to Antony station, where passengers can connect to the city's RER B trains. SK (people Mover)
The SK is a people mover built by the company Soulé from Bagnères-de-Bigorre. The acronym SK comes from the initials of the production company (Soulé) and of the designer (Kermadec). The system consists of small cabins mounted on rails which are pulled by a cable at a constant speed. This idea is directly derived from the gondola lifts which Soulé produces for many ski resorts. At stations, the cabin drops the cable and can stop. This technique only works on short lines; its inability to work on long or curved lines with many stops is due to risk of losing the cable and lack of stability at normal speed. A rubber-tyred metro or rubber-tired metro is a form of rapid transit system that uses a mix of road and rail technology. The vehicles have wheels with rubber tires that run on rolling pads inside guide bars for traction, as well as traditional railway steel wheels with deep flanges on steel tracks for guidance through conventional switches as well as guidance in case a tyre fails.
