Bristow Helicopters Limited is a British civil helicopter operator originally based at Aberdeen Airport, Scotland, which is currently a part of the U.S.-based Bristow Group (, S&P 600 component) which in turn has its corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas, U.S. In 2020, Bristow Group was merged with Era Helicopters, a large U.S.-based commercial helicopter operator that was previously a division of Era Aviation, with the two companies then continuing to use the Bristow name. Bristow Helicopters was established by Alan Bristow in June 1955; two years later, it acquired its first pair of helicopters in the form of the Westland Widgeon. The company quickly expanded overseas as well as various services, including helicopter training, oil exploration, search and rescue, and charter flights. Bristow is a city in Creek County, Oklahoma, Creek County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 4,222 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, down 2.4 percent from the figure of 4,325 recorded in 2000 United States Census, 2000. History Bristow began in 1898, when the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway ("SL&SF") built a track between Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Sapulpa and Oklahoma City. The town was named for Joseph L. Bristow, a U.S. senator from Kansas. A post office was established April 25, 1898. By the 1900 census, the population was 626. Bristow was designated as the county seat for Creek County at statehood when its population was 1,134. However, the county held a special election on August 20, 1908, to decide whether the seat would remain in Bristow or move to Sapulpa, which claimed to be more centrally located. The series was in continuous publication in the ''Aberdeen Press & Journal'' from September 1961 until its last appearance in 2012. With over 10,000 strips made over the decades and running for over 51 years, ''Bristow'' is one of the longest running daily cartoon strips by a single author, according to Guinness World Records. The Bristow character is even older than that, having debuted in Dickens's series ''Oddbod'' in ''The Sunday Times'' in 1960. Due to his popularity he received his own spin-off series soon afterwards.
