Bopfingen
Bopfingen ( Swabian: ''Bopfeng'') is a small city in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated in the Ostalbkreis, between Aalen and Nördlingen. It consists of the city Bopfingen itself and its suburbs Aufhausen, Baldern, Flochberg, Kerkingen, Oberdorf, Schloßberg, Trochtelfingen, and Unterriffingen. Bopfingen is famous for its landmark Ipf, a table mountain which is part of the neighboring Schwäbische Alb to the east. To the west it borders to Bavaria and the meteor crater Nördlinger Ries. The first known settlers came to the area 8000 years ago in the Holocene. Also Celtic and Roman relics were found. It was first mentioned between 775 and 850 AD in a deed of foundation of "Traditiones Fuldenses" where it was called "Pophingen". Mayors Since February 2006 Gunter Bühler is the mayor of Bopfingen. Aufhausen (Bopfingen)
Aufhausen is a borough and a suburb of the town of Bopfingen in the Ostalbkreis district of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The hamlets of Bayermühle and Michelfeld and the houses Schlägweidmühle and Walkmühle belong to the village. Aufhausen was an independent municipality until it merged with Bopfingen. The borough has about 831 inhabitants. Geography Aufhausen, also known as the "village of mills", is located west of Bopfingen, directly on the ''Bundesstraße'' Bundesstraße 29, B 29. The village lies elongated in the Eger (Wörnitz), Eger valley, only slightly below the karst source of the Eger, where the Schenkenbach valley meets, and is overlooked by the rocky forested heights of the northern Härtsfeld. Mount Ipf
The Ipf is a mostly treeless mountain ( high), near Bopfingen, Ostalbkreis, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, with a prehistoric hill fort on its top. The fort is situated on an isolated hill, with a flattened summit surrounded by a stone wall, ditch and large counterscarp (outer bank). The overall diameter is about . Extensive ramparts traverse the slopes to protect a large enclosed area and entranceway. There is evidence of occupation from the Bronze Age (Urnfield culture) through the Iron Age to the early Celtic La Tene period, a span of almost a thousand years (1200 BC – 300 BC). The summit was already levelled, fortified and densely settled in the Urnfield period. During the early Iron Age Hallstatt period and into the early La Tène period the Ipf was an important 'princely seat' – a regional centre of power and aristocratic residence with long-distance trade connections, including with Greece and Italy. MSC Ipf Bopfingen
Bopfingen Speedway was a German motorcycle speedway team called MSC-Ipf Bopfingen and a former speedway track known as the Breitwangbahn, which was located approximately 2 kilometres west of Bopfingen on Sandberg 1. The team were champions of West Germany in 1974. History Breitwangbahn The Breitwangbahn was a speedway track from 30 July 1972 until 1984. The venue hosted significant events, including qualifying rounds of the Speedway World Championship in 1977 and 1981 and a qualifying round of the Speedway World Team Cup in 1974. MSC-Ipf Bopfingen The team called MSC-Ipf Bopfingen competed in the German Team Speedway Championship, West German Team Championship from 1974 until 1984. Heinrich Hiesinger
Heinrich Hiesinger (born 25 May 1960) is a German engineer and manager who served as the CEO of ThyssenKrupp from 2011 until 2018. Early life and education The eldest of six children raised on a farm, Hiesinger was born in Bopfingen in southern Germany and grew up on a farm. He obtained a PhD in Electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Career Siemens From 1992 to 2010, Hiesinger held several positions within the Siemens Group. Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985, each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, the championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was usually run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a final consisting of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end.
