Burzyn
Burzyn is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Jedwabne, within Łomża County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It lies approximately east of Jedwabne, north-east of Łomża, and west of the regional capital Białystok. Geography Burzyn is located on the west side of the Biebrza River bordering Biebrza National Park. Villages and farms are located along this elevated western shore of the river while the eastern side is a large Marsh that floods every spring. History Burzyn is first mentioned on August 23, 1428, when the Duke of Mazovia, Janusz I of Warsaw, gave the land to Nicholas of Krassow. In about 1482, Burzyn village was owned by Stanislaw Piroga of Łomża whose descendant Andrew moved to the town and took the surname Burzynski. In 1643, Burzyn passed into the hands of families Kapiców - Milewski via marriage to Anna Burzynska. The population of Burzyn in 1830 was 320 people. The Netta is a river in north-east Poland, a right tributary of the Biebrza, approximately long. It is a continuation of the Rospuda, which flows into Lake Rospuda (connected to Lake Necko) north of the town of Augustów. The Rospuda and Netta together have a length of and a watershed of . The Netta runs parallel to, or (on its upper and lower stretches) forms part of, the Augustów Canal, built in the 19th century to link the basins of the Vistula and the Neman. It connects to the Vistula via the Biebrza, the Narew and the Bug River. The Netta's main tributaries are the Szczeberka, Kolniczanka, Olszanka and Turówka. The Netta begins its course in Augustów, where it flows out of Lake Necko and southwards through the town. At Białobrzegi it joins the Turówka and continues southwards, flowing through the districts of Gmina Augustów and Gmina Sztabin. Lega is a river in Poland, a right tributary of the river Biebrza. It flows through a number of lakes on the border of the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie Voivodeships. Narew
The Narew (; be, Нараў, translit=Naraŭ; or ; Sudovian: ''Naura''; Old German: ''Nare''; uk, Нарва, translit=Narva) is a 499-kilometre (310 mi) river primarily in north-eastern Poland, which is also a tributary of the river Vistula. The Narew is one of Europe's few braided rivers, the term relating to the twisted channels resembling braided hair. Around 57 kilometres (35 mi) of the river flows through western Belarus. Osowiec-Twierdza
Osowiec-Twierdza is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Goniądz, in Mońki County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It lies approximately south of Goniądz, north-west of Mońki, and north-west of the regional capital Białystok. Osowiec-Twierdza is home to the Biebrza National Park. History Excavations have revealed settlements in Osowiec from prehistoric times. Okrasa existed as a village since before 1444 AD. In 1743 to 1827 Osowiec (as Marcinpol) was a city. In the nineteenth century, a railway line was built from Białystok to Ełk, Königsberg, and passing through Osowiec. From 1882 to 1892, the Russian army built a regional military defense strategy. Further work built fortifications at the outbreak of World War I. From 1914 to August 6, 1915, the German 8th Army futilely struggled to break the defensive belt represented by Osowiec Fortress, which successfully defended the Tsarist troops. Sztabin ( lt, Štabinas, Stabinis) - is a village in Augustów County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Sztabin. It lies approximately south-east of Augustów and north of the regional capital Białystok. The village has a population of 920. History The territories of the present Sztabin Commune were once inhabited by the Yotvingians. In 1506, King Alexander Jagiellon gave a part of this land to the Chreptowicz family. The village was founded by Adam Chreptowicz before 1598, at the river crossing, on the route from Augustów to Knyszyn. At the beginning of its existence, it was called Osinki for over a century and a half. Goniądz
Goniądz (; lt, Goniondas, german: Gonionds, yi, גאניאנדז, Goniondzh) is a town in Poland, located at the Biebrza river, (pop. 1,915) in Mońki county ('' Powiat of Mońki'') in Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland. 80% of the town was destroyed in World War II. After its postwar reconstruction, it has become a local agriculture hub, as well as a tourist destination. History The town was founded some time in the 14th century in dense forests covering the area back then. The first mention dates back to August 14, 1358, when a chronicler noted Goniądz as a seat of a powiat within the land of Wizna. On December 2, 1382, the dukes of Mazovia ( Siemowit IV and his brother and co-regent Janusz I) awarded the Wizna castle, together with the surrounding land, to the Teutonic Order.
