Bayan Khutugh
Bayan Khutugh (1324–1365), also Bayan Qudu (; Pai-yen Hu-tu), was an empress consort of the Yuan dynasty as the second wife of Toghon Temür (Emperor Huizong). Her father was Bolod Temür. According to the ''History of Yuan'', Bayan Qudu was known for being "frugal, unjealous, and thoroughly observant of ritual and regulation," which was a sharp contrast to the character and nature of the emperor's favourite concubine, Lady Ki (later known as Öljei Quduq). Marriage In July 1335, Toghon Temür's first empress, Danashiri, daughter of the prime minister El Temür, was deposed and later sentenced to death by hanging in Dadu for her involvement in the failed rebellion led by her brother, Tangqishi (T’ang Chi’i-shih). It was not until 1337 that Toghon Temür remarried, this time to a girl of the influential Khongirad tribe, Bayan Qudu. Yuan Dynasty
The Yuan dynasty (), officially the Great Yuan (; xng, , , literally "Great Yuan State"), was a Mongol-led imperial dynasty of China and a successor state to the Mongol Empire after its division. It was established by Kublai, the fifth khagan-emperor of the Mongol Empire from the Borjigin clan, and lasted from 1271 to 1368. In orthodox Chinese historiography, the Yuan dynasty followed the Song dynasty and preceded the Ming dynasty. Although Genghis Khan had been enthroned with the Han-style title of Emperor in 1206 and the Mongol Empire had ruled territories including modern-day northern China for decades, it was not until 1271 that Kublai Khan officially proclaimed the dynasty in the traditional Han style, and the conquest was not complete until 1279 when the Southern Song dynasty was defeated in the Battle of Yamen. Toqto'a (Yuan Dynasty)
Toqto’a ( mn, Toqtogha; Cyrillic: Тогтох; ; 1314－1356), courtesy name Dayong (), also known as "The Great Historian Tuotuo", was a high-ranking minister and an official historian of the Yuan dynasty of China. He was the author of three of the ''Twenty-Four Histories'', writing the ''History of Liao'', the ''History of Jin'', and the '' History of Song'' (the three predecessor Chinese states to the Yuan dynasty). Later in life, he was falsely accused, banished, and murdered. Losing him, the Yuan court might have lost its last chance to defeat the Red Turban Rebellion, which started in the early 1350s against their rule. He was Bayan's nephew and Bayan Khutugh's brother. Bayan of the Merkid (died 1340), or Bayan (), was a Mongol general of the Merkid clan and an official in the Yuan dynasty. Life Bayan was born into a family with military background. Many of his family members had served as soldiers during the Mongol conquest of Eurasia. Toghon Temür ( mn, Тогоонтөмөр; Mongolian script: ; ; 25 May 1320 – 23 May 1370), also known by his temple name as the Emperor Huizong of Yuan () bestowed by the Northern Yuan dynasty and by his posthumous name as the Emperor Shun of Yuan () bestowed by the Ming dynasty, was the last emperor of the Yuan dynasty and later the first emperor of the Northern Yuan dynasty.
