Karl Joseph Anton Leodegar von Bachmann (3 March 1734 – 3 September 1792) was a Swiss mercenary in French service, best known as the commander of the Swiss Guards during the Insurrection of 10 August 1792. Joseph Siegmund Bachmann (monastic name Sixtus Bachmann; 18 July 1754 – 18 October 1825) was a German organist and composer. Musically talented at an early age, he had an organ-playing competition in 1766 with the ten-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Josef Bachmann
Josef Erwin Bachmann (12 October 1944 – 24 February 1970) became widely known in Germany for his assassination attempt on the Marxist activist Rudi Dutschke, firing three bullets at him, on 11 April 1968. Bachmann was convicted of the attack and sentenced to seven years in prison. He committed suicide in 1970 while serving his sentence. John Bachmann, Sr. (1814–1896) was a Swiss-born lithographer and artist best known for his bird's-eye views, especially of New York City. He was a journeyman lithographic artist in Switzerland and Paris until 1847. His first known American print (credited to "C Bachmann" as artist and "J Bachmann" as publisher) appeared in 1848, a view from an imagined point above Union Square in New York, looking south toward The Battery. In 1849 and 1850, he created and published a series of American views, including views of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Havana. Franz Ewald Theodor Bachmann (6 June 1856 – after 1916), was a medical practitioner and naturalist. Bachmann was born in Lissa, present-day Leszno, Poland. studied in Breslau with Adolf Engler and in Würzburg where he was awarded an M.D. in 1883. He arrived in the Cape on 4 July 1883 in the company of Friedrich Wilms and disembarked while Wilms carried on to Durban. Bachmann spent the next four years practising medicine in the Western Cape, spending two years in Darling and the remainder in Hopefield.
