Anchorage () is the largest city in the U.S. state of Alaska by population. With a population of 291,247 in 2020, it contains nearly 40% of the state's population. Dave Bronson
David Bronson (born June 26, 1958) is an American politician, pilot, and retired military officer who is the 9th and current mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. Early life and education Bronson was born in Superior, Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Career Bronson served as a pilot in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1990, as an Air Force Reserve Command plans officer from 1992 to 1993, and an Alaska Air National Guard maintenance officer and pilot from 1993 to 2005, retiring with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He has also worked as a commercial pilot since 1990. In January 2021, Bronson declared his candidacy for mayor in the 2021 Anchorage mayoral election. This is a list of mayors of Anchorage, Alaska, United States. Anchorage was incorporated as a city on November 23, 1920. Ship Creek
Ship Creek ( Dena'ina: ''Dgheyaytnu'') is an Alaskan river that flows from the Chugach Mountains into Cook Inlet. The Port of Anchorage at the mouth of Ship Creek gave its name ("Knik Anchorage") to the city of Anchorage that grew up nearby. The river lies entirely within the limits of the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. Most of its upper length traverses Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. History The Dena'ina language name for the creek is Dgheyaytnu. In early 1915, a tent city formed at the mouth of Ship Creek for workers involved in the construction of the Alaska Railroad. This disorganized community was soon relocated south to the bluffs along the creek, forming what would become the early town of Anchorage. In July 1923, President Warren G. Matthew W. Claman (born 1959) is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. Claman previously served as the acting Mayor of Anchorage after Mark Begich resigned from the position to serve in the United States Senate. Early life and education Claman was raised in Dallas, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Colorado College. Claman moved to Alaska in 1980, working as a prep cook at a mining camp. Claman returned to Texas to earn Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. Bill P. Wielechowski (born December 7, 1967) is an American lawyer serving as a Democratic member of the Alaska Senate representing District H. District H is located in Anchorage, Alaska and includes Spenard and the University of Alaska at Anchorage. Prior to the 2012 redistricting process, he represented District J from 2007 to 2013. The Alaska State Senate is the upper house in the Alaska Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska. Andrew Lewis Josephson (born July 15, 1964) is a member of the Alaska House of Representatives. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Personal life and education Josephson graduated from Whitman College in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in history. Lora H. Reinbold (born April 30, 1964 in Fairbanks, Alaska) is an American politician who is a member of the Alaska Senate. She was a member of the Alaska House from 2013 to 2019, representing District 26. Reinbold is the only member of the Alaska State Legislature who is unaffiliated with a caucus organization, as she was ejected from the Republican-led majority caucus in March 2015.
