Ahaxe-Alciette-Bascassan () is a Communes of France, commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departments of France, department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regions of France, region in southwestern France. The people of the commune are known as ''Ahastar''. Geography Location Ahaxe-Alciette-Bascassan is part of ''Cize/Garazi country'' which was a historical province in Lower Navarre. It includes three former parishes, sometimes counted as four groups of houses in the Middle Ages and with five toponyms: Alciette, Ahaxe, Garatehegi, Ligeta, and Bascassan located at the confluence of the Laurhibar and Esteneko streams. Alciette is the parish farthest away to the northeast in the combination of the three parishes. Ahaxe-Alciette-Bascassan is located some 6 km south-east of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and can be accessed by Highway D18 running from close to there through the heart of the commune southeast to Lecumberry. The communauté d'agglomération du Pays Basque ( eu, Euskal Hirigune Elkargoa), is the ''communauté d'agglomération'', an intercommunal structure, centred on the cities of Bayonne and Biarritz. It is located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, southwestern France. It was created in January 2017 by the merger of the former communauté de l'agglomération Côte Basque-Adour, communauté de l'agglomération Sud Pays Basque and eight communautés de communes. Saint-Jean-le-Vieux (; eu, Donazaharre) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in south-western France. History The town of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux was razed to the ground in 1177 by the troops of Richard the Lionheart after a siege. The Kings of Navarre refounded the town at nearby Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port as the regional capital shortly afterwards. Saint-Jean-le-Vieux was also resettled. The Auñamendi Encyclopedia is the largest encyclopedia of Basque culture and society, with 120,000 articles and more than 67,000 images. History Founded in 1958 by the Estornés Lasa brothers, Bernardo and Mariano. He began publishing in 1969 with the help of the Auñamendi publishing house. Since 1996, Eusko Ikaskuntza has taken over the task of digitizing, cataloging and putting it on the network. The new encyclopedia is based on the Auñamendi encyclopedia by Bernardo Estornés Lasa, which began in 1933 and whose first and last volumes were released in 1960 and 2008 respectively. There were 58 volumes. The contents of the Auñamendi Encyclopedia are generated by a large group of specialists in different subjects who guarantee the level of quality and scientific rigor of the encyclopedia.
