Gomez released the standalone single " Single Soon" on August 25, 2023, a "fun little song" to celebrate "the end of summer". Four months later, on December 7, Gomez revealed that her forthcoming studio album was slated for a release in February 2024. In January 2024, she announced that she only has "one more album in" her as she prefers acting, if someone asked her to pick between the two. On February 14, Gomez posted a link to a heart-shaped lock with a passcode "222", alluding to the release date of the single. She announced "Love On" the following day through her social media.
